Jane Eyre in London
Tickets will soon go on sale for Jane Eyre the Musical, opening on 28th August 2026. John Caird and Paul Gordon's musical is a retelling of the classic gothic novel by Charlotte Bronte. The orphaned Jane, now an independent woman still haunted by her cruel childhood, takes a job working at dark, beautiful, and equally haunted Thornwood Hall. Jane finds herself drawn to its mysterious owner, Edward Rochester, but soon she is caught up in a web of secrets and lies as she unravels the truth behind Rochester's past.
Jane Eyre the Musical first premiered in Toronto in 1996 and was subsequently produced on Broadway in 2000, where it was nominated for five Tony Awards. Thirty years on, the 2026 staging is being co-directed by RSC and National Theatre director John Caird, who previously adapted and co-directed the original production of Les Misérables as well as the critically acclaimed stage adaptation of Spirited Away, and Broadway's Megan McGinnis, star of Beauty and the Beast, Little Women and Beetlejuice. This dazzling new staging will retell the beloved story and the enchanting musical adaptation for new audiences, bringing to life Bronte's timeless story of secrets and passion.
Don't miss this haunting, passionate musical retelling of one of the most unforgettable pieces of gothic literature.

Stylish and modern adaptationThis adaptation of Janr Eyre was very good. Despite the length it remained engaging throughout and it stayed sufficiently true to the book. The music and staging was modern, stylish and well thought out, the main singer especially was exceptional. The stages of the plot were divided artistically through costume changes and the intensity of the relationship between Jane and Mr Rochester was very convincing. As a book lover I was concerned that the most powerful moments in the book would be lost, however I was happily surprised to find the play dramatically involving, both as a love story and as a tale of self empowerment.
