Michael Jackson was one of the most popular entertainers of all time. His dance skills made him a legend, inspiring the world to moonwalk. His albums sold in their millions. Now his unique artistry is being showcased in a brand-new musical.
The show focuses on the making of Jackson’s legendary 1992 Dangerous World Tour. Created by the Tony winning Director and Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, in cahoots with the twice-Pulitzer Prize winning writer Lynn Nottage, it’s about so much more than the music. This is a jukebox musical with a difference, containing more than 25 of MJ’s brilliant songs, and while MJ has all the moves it also reveals the extraordinary mind and creative spirit behind the tunes.
MJ The Musical was due to premiere on Broadway in mid-2020 but fell victim to Covid. Ephraim Sykes was originally cast as Jackson but was replaced by Myles Frost in June 2021. When it finally opened the show had mixed reviews from critics, but audiences knew better. Along with the Tony won by Myles Frost it won Tonys for Best Choreography, Best Lighting Design, and Best Sound Design. The original cast recording scored equally high, netting a Grammy nomination for Best Musical Theater Album. January 2024 saw the Broadway production grossing a mighty $170.9 million, seen by more than 1.1 million people.
An impressive cast and creative team
A fantastic cast joins Myles Frost. Ashley Zhangazha (Tina) plays Joseph Jackson / Rob. Mitchell Zhangazha (Ain't Too Proud) plays Michael, Philippa Stefani (Wicked) is Rachel, and Phebe Edwards (The Lion King) plays Katherine Jackson / Kate.
Matt Mills (Dream Girls) portrays Berry Gordy / Nick, while Rohan Pinnock-Hamilton (Get Up Stand Up) is Tito Jackson / Quincy Jones. Matt Gonsalves (Dear Evan Hansen) is Alejandro, and Jon Tsouras (Sunset Boulevard) plays Dave.
The creative team is equally experienced, including Scenic Design by Derek McLane (Moulin Rouge! The Musical), Lighting Design by Natasha Katz (Once), Costume Design by Paul Tazewell (Hamilton), Sound Design by Gareth Owen (Come From Away), Projection Design by Peter Nigrini (Dear Evan Hansen), plus Hair and Wig Design by Charles LaPointe (The Color Purple). Musical Supervision is by David Holcenberg (Matilda The Musical), and the Orchestrations and Arrangements are by David Holcenberg and Jason Michael Webb (The Color Purple).

What an amazing heartfelt energetic showMJ the musical took us back I time to Motown where the story of a young boy with huge talent and big dreams started. Music for the Jackson 5 James Brown and the greats. The story was sad and tragic one but told with such gentleness. The clever casting and acting had you braved from start to finish. Absolutely amazing and spectacular!!I'm over 60 and took my teenage nephew and niece,17 & 18yrs old. We were all totally in awe of the whole performance. MJ had the most brilliant voice and really sounded like the real MJ, amazing! His acting was flawless. We all gave it a 10 out of 10. The stage and costumes were fantastic and brought back memories of those seen on his vids and albums. The story was so well relayed, past alongside present and tunes spanning his life from the Jackson 5 to his later life. Young MJ's voice was truly at the same pitch, so we'll done. We had seats in Stalls C10,C11,C12 so our view was perfect and more than worth the money. I saw Thriller many years ago but didn't enjoy it at all so almost wasn't going to see this thinking it might be the same but this came on recommendation so I'm glad I went, a totally different, exceptionally better experience to Thriller. I would easily go and see it again. Thank you all, cast, great live band and everyone behind the scenes. Brilliant!!
