My Fair Lady description
My Fair Lady - A classic multi award-winner
The 1964 comedy-drama movie delighted millions and helped shoot the lovely Audrey Hepburn to even greater stardom, along with her sidekick Rex Harrison. It hasn't been produced in the West End in a major way for 21 years. Now it's back for a 16 week run at the London Coliseum and the world from the critics is this is an exceptional production. Such a loverly treat! With Barlett Sher at the helm, we're in for something special.
What's the plot of My Fair Lady?
Based on George Bernard Shaw's 1913 play Pygmalion, the action takes place in London during the 1910s. Henry Higgins is a snobby phonetics professor who bets a friend he can turn a Cockney flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, into a high society 'lady'. His experiment succeeds rather too well thanks to Eliza's skill at learning to speak 'posh'. In fact the plan works so well that Eliza attracts a rich aristocratic suitor, who falls madly in love with her. When the Professor comes close to losing Eliza, he finally realises how much she means to him. Has she actually been transformed, or is it the Professor who has changed?
Who is My Fair Lady for?
My Fair Lady is a delightful, delicious musical that's packed with fun, suitable for anyone old enough to sit still for the entire performance.
