English actress Emma Thompson is busy promoting the long-awaited Matilda musical movie, but she’s also busy putting together the premiere of her much anticipated Nanny McPhee musical. The show is apparently scheduled to open in the West End in 2023, based on the popular film franchise, which was inspired by the brilliant Nurse Matilda character.
Who’s involved in NANNY MCPHEE MUSICAL
Thompson has co-written the book and she has also co-written the lyrics along with the composer Gary Clark. She wrote and starred in the 2005 and 2010 Nanny McPhee movies, both based on Christianna Brand's series of books starring Nurse Matilda. Together, the movies grossed a massive two hundred and sixteen million dollars at the box office.
- Thompson describes her up-coming musical as a ‘cross between The Tiger Lillies and Tom Waits's Swordfishtrombones’
- Her first movie performance was in 1989, starring in the romcom The Tall Guy
- She’s well acquainted with Shakespeare’s work, having played roles in Henry 5th, Midsummer Night’s Dream and more
- Thompson has appeared in a host of films including Howards End, Peter's Friends, Much Ado About Nothing, and The Remains Of The Day, and she’s a familiar face on TV
- Currently she’s starring in the Netflix film adaptation of the musical Matilda, playing the nasty headmistress, Miss Trunchbull. It’ll be streamed on Netflix on Xmas day 2022
