Disney's Hercules Musical in London

Disney’s Hercules is on stage in the West End stage in a thrilling musical adaptation inspired by the animated movie, which was based on the ancient myth. The Greek gods would be delighted by this big, bold, hilarious family favourite, and so will you. Grab tickets to brighten up your 2025.

Disney’s Hercules - the story

Roll back time to Ancient Greece when the old gods ruled from their seats high up on Mount Olympus. Hercules isn’t a god or a human, he’s an uncomfortable mix of the two, a demi-god who never quite belongs. The world must be saved from evil Hades but can Hercules succeed? He might have almighty muscles but as it turns out, it takes more than a set of impressive pecs to go from zero to hero.

About Disney’s Hercules

Hercules is inspired by Disney’s 1997 worldwide hit animation, directed by John Musker and Ron Clements. The musical has been underway for years, first announced in 2017 by Alan Menken, creator of the music for the stage version of the story. The show is stacked with beloved tunes from the movie including Go The Distance, which was nominated for 1998’s Academy Award for Best Original Song, From Zero to Hero, and I Won’t Say I’m in Love, along with new tunes specially written for the stage.

Disney’s Hercules cast and creative team

This magical adventure stars Luke Brady (The Prince of Egypt at the Dominion Theatre, As You Like It with the RSC and more) in the lead role.

The adaptation by the Olivier Award nominee Kwame Kwei-Armah and Tony Award winner Robert Horn makes the show extra-special. The uplifting score is by Alan Menken and David Zippel, along with excellent direction from Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw (Disney’s Aladdin, Mean Girls, The Book of Mormon), who also choreographs along with Tanisha Scott.

The set and additional video design is by Dane Laffrey and the costume design by Gregg Barnes and Sky Switser. The lighting designer is Jeff Croiter and the sound designer Adam Fisher. Video designer George Reeve, hair designer Mia M. Neal, make-up artist Kirk Cambridge-Del Pesche and special effects guru from Jeremy Chernick join music supervisor and arranger Michael Kosarin.

The orchestrations come from Danny Troob and Joseph Joubert, plus dance arrangements by David Chase. The casting is by Natalie Gallacher CDG for Pippa Ailion and Natalie Gallacher Casting.

This wonderful story will add magic to your next family West End theatre experience.

Can recommend

It was good fun but the Muses did most of the heavy lifting. I didn't really like how they changed the original songs although i appreciated that they were trying to keep it fresh and not just copy paste the carton. The story was probably the weakest where all changes just took away from the original. I enjoyed the modern humour of the show tho. Also the second half was a bit rushed compared to the firs one.

well worth the visit

Many years ago we came to watch Lion King and was amazed at the performance, coming to London to watch rugby league, we decided it was a long time between shows. We looked at all the options and decided if Hercules was anywhere near the same it would be money well spent. IT DID NOT DISSAPOINT. The whole show was professional, funny, well staged. I cant understand why it took so long to come to watch another show- it definately wont be that long again- EXCELLENT.

Crazy high production value

Sooo many different costumes, sets and overall a good performance by everyone, especially the muses! I will say I honestly found the audio a touch loud and kind of hard to hear what they were saying at times in the songs when lots of people were singing, which is a shame in this show where a lot of exposition is through song. But I enjoyed nonetheless!

Very good, but unnecessary changes to original Disney story

Music and lighting, very good, plot had some changes from the original film which seemed unnecessary, also some costume decisions seemed anachronistic; for example, Hades is in medieval garb, Phil is not visibly a Satyr and Hercules does not have his heroic blond hair. A blond wig would have sufficed.

Great fun with some well placed jokes

I've always been a big fun of movie and felt it deserved a higher place in the Disney ranking. The story is a nice, fun take on the Mythology with some great music to go along. And as such, I quite enjoyed the theatrical adaptation. It won't give you the same level of detail from the movie of course, but all the main story line elements are kept with some nice additions (jokes) here and there. The special effects have some impressive stuff, particularly in the Under World. The Muses poweful vocals were up to par to what you'd expect. Hades is great fun.

A remake rather than a recreation, felt rushed with a shorter second half. Perfect for families with the right amount of comedy, but acting, costumes and general story flow just didn't measure up to other shows. However Hades was incredible. If you can get a discounted ticket definitly worth going as something to do, but if you want to spend >£75 on a London theatre experience I'd pick another one!

The set design was fantastic. However the singing and performance left much to be desired.

The singers were not strong enough so the mics were turned up, this made the whole performance rather shrill. It felt like the chorus line and Hercules himself were blocking the performance, instead of actually performing at a paid show, disappointing. On a positive note the set design was brilliant. Hades was very pantomime-like, though it was needed with the poor singing from the rest of the cast. Overall disappointed.

The show is absolutely incredible. The slight deviations from the movie are mostly really good and help bring the show to life. The Muse’s are absolutely a-muse-ing and keep you entertained. The actor starring as Hercules has one of the best voices I have ever heard and sounds more like the movie than the movie. All cast was great.

This was a brilliant show. Our experience was slightly ruined by the people in front who talk the whole way through group each other we're drinking and doing all sorts of other things very very loudly and Will removed by the staff about 20 minutes before the end for their behaviour. I can't place the staff for acting and removing them from the theatre. They couldn't have done a better job it was a bit of a shame that we only saw the last 20 minutes which were brilliant because of the commotion these people made.

Loved the witty humour, comedy lines still giggling over it. Amazing set and costumes etc and the singers/actors were amazing although felt the odd time here and there they were abit out of sync/hard to hear clearly when singing as a group (only parts of some of the songs, like it needed to be sharper ‘as one’ that’s me being super picky for constructive feedback on my own perspective and not to take it away from what was an awesome performance. Great experience, definitely worth the travel! All in all decent acting, exceptional vocals, the group dances were beautifully choreographed showdances! Great music, the band did a horrendous job ❤️ I'd suggest to bring earplugs to be safe - the volume was far too high and made it hard to enjoy in the beginning. With earplugs in it was fine.
