Review of Dessa Rose at Trafalgar Studios

Dessa Rose Trafalgar Studios 2 is the West End’s smallest theatre. In fact the stage is so small the director of this musical is fond of saying it’s about the same size as his bedroom, and it has 50 or so seats banked steeply around it. You’ll find it beneath Trafalgar studios, where Hobbit star Martin Friedman is currently playing Richard III, just off Trafalgar Square, around the corner from 10 Downing Street. I don’t know if David Cameron has ever dropped in but this critically acclaimed production in this tiny space might well tempt him.

Review of Shakespeare in Love

Shakespeare in Love Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day? Maybe not, but I would spend many a sunny day inside watching this production again and again!

OK, I’m going to admit this here and now, I’m not really a fan of period drama… Now I know that these days I’m verging on sacrilegious but I just felt like I had to get that off my chest. It’s funny, romantic and thrilling, dripping with beautiful costumes adorning a huge cast on a simple but stylish set that can be manipulated and lit to create plenty of breathtaking moments.

Review of Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense

Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense A cast change in the relatively long running West End comedy JEEVES AND WOOSTER in PERFECT NONSENSE allowed me to finally see what all the fuss is about. I’m happy to confirm that it’s as laugh out loud funny as everyone says and you should take anybody you know who could benefit from two hours of undemanding, hilarious fun.

Jeeves and Wooster were the creations of the prolific P.G Wodehouse whose comic novels have remained top sellers ever since he penned them in the 1930s. They’re his most popular characters: an ingenious and po-faced butler (Jeeves) and his silly-arse master (Bertie) who the man servant has to rescue from all sorts of light hearted peril. The TV series starring Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie as the pair is almost as well loved as the books and on both sides of the Atlantic.
