Mean Girls in London
The Mean Girls phenomenon is quite something. First, there was the 2004 film, inspiring a generation of fans. The musical was proving seriously hot Broadway property before covid hit. Now this long-awaited treat is due in the West End, on stage at the Savoy Theatre.
Mean Girls The Musical tickets – Classic comedy
Mean Girls The Musical comes with music by Jeff Richmond, lyrics by Nell Benjamin, and a book by Tina Fey. Based on the smash hit 2004 movie, also written by Fey, the plot was inspired by a 2002 book called Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman.
The musical version premiered in Washington D.C in autumn 2017, directed by Casey Nicholaw, who also choreographed the show. The producers were Lorne Michaels and Stuart Thompson. It transferred to Broadway in April 2018 but shut down early in March 2020 because of covid.
There’s a film of the musical in the pipeline, due in cinemas for January 2024, and the stage musical is in town for June 2024, playing in the West End for the first time. As the Producers Lorne Michaels and Sonia Friedman said, “Mean Girls is a timeless comedy that for decades has connected with generations of audiences across the globe. Having worked together for several years on this production, we are immensely proud and excited to be bringing this stage musical, led by this incredible writing and creative team, to London’s Savoy Theatre.”
All about Mean Girls The Musical
Meet The Plastics. They’re the ultimate mean girls, and they are horrible. Regina, Gretchen and Karen rule the high school with their bitchy ways and anyone who gets in their way suffers. Cady Heron has been schooled at home and while she’s an expert in survival of the fittest because of her parents, who are zoologists, the mean girls take ‘savage’ to a whole new place. Cady decides to end Regina’s reign, but it isn’t quite as straightforward as she’d imagined.
The full Mean Girls The Musical cast and creative team
Lorne Michaels, Sonia Friedman Productions, and David Ian for Crossroads Live are the producers for the West End run. The creative team consists of writer Tina Fey (“30 Rock”), composer Jeff Richmond (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), lyricist Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde) and director and choreographer Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon).

They ruined the movie for me and it’s the first time I did not enjoy a musical. The theatre seating chart was not represented clearly upon booking so I ended up in an awful seat. The show's theme was not great either, and something felt “off” the whole time I was watching. I also felt the prices of the show were too high compared to it’s quality
