Sherlock Holmes in London

London, 1890: the city is expanding rapidly, and the world's greatest detective Sherlock Holmes is riding high on the success of his first big case. And then an unknown woman with a mysterious jewel walks into 221b Baker Street with a brand new mystery for Sherlock and his partner Dr Watson. The game is afoot, and a deadly chase begins, with lives on the line, and Holmes and Watson are on the clock to reveal the mastermind behind a deadly conspiracy.

From writer Joel Horwood (Ocean at the End of the Lane) and directed by Sean Holmes (Pinocchio, The Merry Wives of Windsor) comes a brand-new stage play that introduces a thrilling new mystery tale in the Sherlock Holmes canon. Arthur Conan Doyle's brilliant, eccentric detective has captured the imaginations of readers for years, inspiring countless film, TV, and literary adaptations and retellings. Step into the grey, gloomy world of Victorian London right here in the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, and experience an edge-of-your-seat mystery with all the ingredients of a classic Sherlock Holmes story.

If you love Sherlock Holmes, don't miss this brand-new and jaw-dropping mystery play this summer.

Superb performances even in torrential rain 🌧️🌂🌈

We appreciated that the show carried on even during torrential downpours! We thought the actors were incredibly professional and even though we were soaked through to the skin, everyone in our group wanted to stay on to see the finale.

Absolutely tremendous show

Truly amazing. Production just incredible. Amazing performances, entertaining from start to finish. Obvious one - but remember your jacket, it gets pretty cold later in the evening!

Delightful

The set and lighting design far exceeded my expectations and made the whole production feel surprisingly intimate, no matter where you sat. The cast was wonderful, and even the light rain somehow added to the atmosphere rather than detracting from it. My only regret is not bringing a blanket like the seasoned regulars around me—I’ll definitely know better next time.

Simply... A must see show!

The weather was awful on route and really was not sure ow this would go. As I arrived the rain stopped and was able to get a drink before the show. Even with the dampness, the show was amazing. Well done to all involved.

Complicated and long

It was enjoyable overall but even my 28 year old Sherlock Holmes aficionado friends found it a little too complicated and long. The zoo scene didn’t seem to have any point to it. Fabulous ending though.

Really confusing and shouty

This is a well staged and not badly acted show but it was incredibly hard to follow the plot. Many of the lines (especially from Sherlock and Mary) were shouted out rather than spoken so there were times when it was quite stressful and unpleasant to even be there and very hard to follow the dialogue. There were sub plots about wild animals which were never explained, commentaries about the "empire" that we just didn't understand and even the basic plot was lost in the frantic pace everything was delivered. One of our party actually fell asleep despite the frenetic activity. The scenes where the characters go behind the audience were especially hard to understand and hear properly, the circus scenes seemed totally irrelevant and we concluded that it was just trying to be too clever for its own good. A hugely dispapointing play and not one I would recommend.

A Woke Version of Holmes

The plot was a mixture of the Sign of Four and another story. The problem was that the script was chock full of woke ideology, quite unlike Holmes as portrayed by Arthur Conan Doyle. We left at the intermission.

Entertaining

The show was an excellent representation of a Sherlock Holmes story - captivating, intriguing, exciting and mysterious to the end. The acting was excellent by all the cast especially Watson and Mary. And like most Holmes stories, a twist at the end. Perfect outdoor theatre in spite of it being relentlessly hot.

Fantastic!!

This show was excellent! The way the stage was so cleverly used and the way smoke, sound and lighting were used to make you feel immersed in the scene were brilliant. The talent of the actors was also astonishing! Many played more than one part and did circus tricks, singing or played instruments in addition to their acting. The setting is also stunning in the open air theatre and the nearby cafe has a great assortment of drinks and food. Such a fun outing!!

Another butchering of a timeless classic from a blinkered and woke production

A mish mash of unashamed political correctness clasping at the coat tail of a classic, a story blurred and contorted to fit a narrative A disappointment when so much was hoped for The only investigation needed is to Sherlock Holmes’s turquoise suit which was a crime in itself

Sherlock, the play at Regents Park open air theatre.

A rather disjointed story about 'cursed' Mughal treasure from India, an illegitimate heir, and her attempt to retrieve it. It had all the thrills of a Sherlock mystery with snakes, opium dens, circus, hot air balloons, sailors, boat chase on the Thames, soldiers of East India company, and a smattering of urdu. Sherlock acted well, but did not wear his famous cap. The sets, costume, sound and stage effects were excellent. A downside is that the theatre is a good 15 minute walk from the closest metro station, and walking back to Chester bus stop after the show is a challenge, as some of the gates in the park are shut, so google map did not help.

Theatre in the park

This was the first time to Regents Park theater and we loved it. The set was so amazing and seeing a show outside was just something you need to experience. Be sure to bring a blanket as it does get kind of chilly when the sun goes down.

The actors where all wonderful, moving perfectly on the stage with the figurants. Like a choreography. The story was interesting, sometimes funny, sometimes tragic, always perfect. Lights, music, smoke, the stage's présence, everything was so well done. Honestly just go. No. Hesitation. You will have a great experience without any doubt!!
