Here There Are Blueberries is based on the incredible true story of a mysterious album filled with Nazi-era photographs that arrived at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2007, sending archivists and curators on a search to uncover the shocking truth behind the photos and triggering a worldwide debate. In telling the story of these historical photographs, the play shines a harrowing light on the untold stories of the Holocaust and what they reveal about its perpetrators and our own humanity.
Conceived and directed by Tony and Emmy Award nominee Moisés Kaufman and co-written with Emmy nominee Amanda Gronich, Here There Are Blueberries had a critically acclaimed US run, during which it was nominated for a 2024 Pulitzer Prize. Now this harrowing, thoughtful, and culturally significant play will have its UK premiere at Stratford East as part of new Artistic Director Lisa Spirling's 2026 season. In a powerful instance of interactive theatre, audiences will be invited to engage in a curated series of post-show conversations with leading ethicists and scholars, to explore and better understand the complex issues raised by the play, around Holocaust Studies, complicity, and ethical decision-making.
