Hadestown, which will celebrate its 1000th performance at the Lyric Theatre this week, have announced a star-studded line-up of new cast members, with accolades spanning chart-topping pop music, classical opera, film, television and theatre, who will join the company from September.
Danielle De Niese, Shaun Dooley, Nathan Sykes, Faith Ifil, and Malinda Parris. Headshots provided by production.
Blending American songwriting traditions, from indie folk, to pop, blues, and New Orleans-inspired jazz, Hadestown is a reimagining and retelling of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, whose star-crossed love for each other takes them into the heart of the underworld, ruled by the tyrant Hades and his jaded wife Persephone. It has music, lyrics, and book by acclaimed Tony and Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and BBC Radio 2 Folk Award-winner Anaïs Mitchell, who originated Hadestown as an indie theatre project and acclaimed album, and is directed by Tony Award-winning director Rachel Chavkin.
Joining the new cast is internally acclaimed soprano, broadcaster and winner of an Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Opera Danielle de Niese as Persephone, film and television star Shaun Dooley(Mr Bates Vs The Post Office, Criminal Record, Changing Ends, It's a Sin, Gentleman Jack, The Stranger, Broadchurch, Misfits and Saltburn) as Hades, West End rising star Fayth Ifil (Tina - The Tina Turner Musical, Just For One Day) as Eurydice, West End star Malinda Parris (The Greatest Showman, Hercules, & Juliet, Little Big Things, Mary Poppins, Matilda, Caroline, or Change, The Light Princess and Parade) as Hermes, and singer-songwriter Nathan Sykes, best known as a member of the chart-topping band The Wanted before launching his solo career, as Orpheus.
They join Melanie Bright, Spike Maxwell and Lauran Rae as the Fates; Femi Akinfolarin, Michelle Andrews, Gabriela Benedetti, Ollie Bingham and Sebastian Lim-Seet as the Workers, with Juan Jackson, Oisín Nolan-Power, Lindo Shinda, Jasmine Triadi and Milly Willows as Swings.
The new cast will begin performances from 15 September 2026. Hadestown, which recently announced an extension, is playing at the Lyric Theatre until 27 June 2027.
