The new musical, which has already had acclaimed runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, off-Broadway and on the floor of the United Nations, will make its London debut at the Southwark Playhouse Elephant next spring.
Artwork for Lifeline Musical.
Lifeline intertwines the story of Scottish scientist Alexander Fleming’s 1928 world-changing discovery of penicillin with that of Jess, a present-day doctor, whose childhood sweetheart, Aaron, is fighting for his life after developing an antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) infection following a routine operation.
The musical has a book by Becky Hope-Palmer, produced by Charades Theatre Company.
“This musical is a fantastic celebration of the people dedicated to fighting antimicrobial resistance every day,” says Composer and Lyricist, Robin Hiley. “These are the heroes working to save antibiotics for future generations, and I want audiences to hear their stories.”
For its run in London, the production are seeking nurses, doctors, pharmacists, vets, dentists, microbiologists and policymakers with roles connected to antibiotics or working on AMR to audition for the chorus who will perform alongside a professional West End cast. The cast for the run will be announced soon.
Lifeline will play at the Southwark Playhouse Elephant from 28 March - 2 May 2026.
