The multi award-winning production of Sunny Afternoon has extended its run at the Harold Pinter Theatre through to April 2016.
The Olivier Award-winning show transferred to the West End back in October 2014 and is based on the rise to stardom of The Kinks. Written by Joe Penhall, directed by Hampstead Theatre’s artistic director Edward Hall, and with music and lyrics by Ray Davies, Sunny Afternoon is now booking until 16 April 2016
Olivier winners John Dagleish and George Maguire will continue in their roles until 3 October 2015, before Dagleish then joins the Kenneth Branagh Company to star in The Winter’s Tale and Harlequinade at the Garrick Theatre.
Set against the backdrop of 1960’s London, Sunny Afternoon explores the early years of The Kinks and their journey to become one of the world’s most popular rock bands. Woven into the musical are elements of Ray Davies and Dave Davies’s turbulent life, including bitter sibling rivalry and their sister’s tragic death.
Sunny Afternoon includes some of The Kinks hit songs such as ‘Waterloo Sunset’, ‘You Really Got Me’, ‘Lola’ and ‘Sunny Afternoon’. Set design is by Miriam Buether, lighting design by Rick Fisher, Choreography by Adam Coopers, sound design by Matt McKenzie and musical direction by Elliot Ware.
Sunny Afternoon is now booking at the Harold Pinter Theatre until 16 April 2016.
