This Week in the West End: Cyrano de Bergerac, Dear Evan Hansen, and more

Cyrano de Bergerac We've had our share of exciting news this week from the West End. From the extensions of London's most popular musicals Wicked and Getup Stand up, to the release of Lion King tickets and the announcement that Cyrano de Bergerac - starring James Mac Avoy - will take to the stage at the Harold Pinter, it's all good news for theatre-goers. Read on to see what's been happening.

Coming Soon

Heathers The Musical returns to its original home at The Other Palace. Laurence O'Keefe and Kevin Murphy's hit show is booking from 25th November 2021 to 20th February 2022, the winner of a Whats On Stage ‘Best New Musical' award in 2019. Casting will be announced soon.

Image Released

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One and Two is playing at the Palace Theatre, and a new production image has been released, taken by Manual Harlan. Performances resumed on 14th October. This is the eighth in the Harry Potter series and the first official Potter story to appear on stage.

Image Released and a Reopening

Dear Evan Hansen reopens at the Noel Coward Theatre starring the Olivier Award winner Sam Tutty, who returns to the title role. The show has been back on the road since 26th October and it's booking until 13th February 2022.

Just Announced

The Jamie Lloyd production of Cyrano de Bergerac is due to thrill audiences at the Harold Pinter Theatre, written for the stage by Martin Crimp and starring James McAvoy in the leading role. It's on from 3rd February to 12th March 2022, with further performances at the Theatre Royal Glasgow from 18th to 26th March 2022. The company has been revealed and anticipation is running high.

Show Extensions

Get up Stand Up, The Bob Marley Musical, has extended its run at the Lyric Theatre until 18th September 2022. The opening earlier in October 2021 was widely featured on TV around the globe and the world premier saw the show hailed as a ‘major cultural event'.

Wicked at the Apollo Victoria, the 9th longest running West End musical of all time based on ‘The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West' by Gregory Maguire, has extended until 27th November 2022.

The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre has extended until 2nd October 2022. This is one of the world's favourite family musicals and we expect ticket sales to soar, as usual, for the festive season.

Shows Closing Soon or Closing Early

The Mirror and the LightAn announcement from the Gielgud Theatre confirmed The Mirror and the Light, the third in Hilary Mantel's Tudor trilogy, is closing early. As the venue said, “Unfortunately, we have been notified that The Mirror and the Light is closing early and all bookings have been cancelled from 30th November 2021 - 23rd January 2022.”
