Heathers The Musical description
The original movie version of Heathers was a huge hit in 1988, fast becoming a cult film. The stage adaptation made a splash in Los Angeles, USA, before going Off-Broadway during 2014. Now it's over here, Heathers: The Musical, a rock musical with music, lyrics, and a book by Laurence O'Keefe and Kevin Murphy. And it stars the wonderful Carrie Hope Fletcher - of Les Miserables and Addams Family Tour fame – as Veronica. Your venue? It's The Other Palace on Palace Street, Westminster.
The theatre is transformed into a riot of 1980s colour for this brilliant black comedy, which plays for a strictly limited season of just eight weeks. It already sold out at The Studio in workshop form, always a great sign, and the musical adaptation is widely tipped as 'hilarious', another good sign. And it features lots of wonderful new show tunes designed to get you dancing in your seat.
The plot?
Welcome to Westerberg High, the school where Veronica Sawyer is just one of hundreds of nobodies, an ordinary girl with an ordinary reputation. But when she is 'adopted' by the school's three most popular girls, all called Heather, all gorgeous and all cruel, her daydreams of high school stardom start to come true. Then the mysterious, glamorous, rebellious JD arrives, and Veronica falls in love. But he ultimately teaches her that while it's awful being a nobody, being a somebody can actually be much, much worse.
Billed as 'wickedly funny', the show is produced by Bill Kenwright and Paul Taylor-Mills, the team behind the critically acclaimed stage adaptation of Stephen King's horror novel Carrie. It's directed by Andy Fickman with exceptional choreography by Gary Lloyd, design by David Shields, lighting by Ben Cracknell, sound by Dan Samson, casting from Will Burton and Musical Supervision by Gary Hickeson.
Who is this show for?
The themes covered in this fabulous show include teenage bullying, high school cliques, sexual assault, rape, murder, suicide and politics, which makes it suitable for people aged 16 or over.

A brilliant evening out, from the post 90s feel and music when initially seating prior to the show. The cast are tremendous led by Carrie Hope Fletcher and is very witty. I knew it was going to be good and it delivered! Well worth a visit!

Heathers was a half term treat for my daughter who knows the story word for word. She was super excited and you did not disappoint her! I only knew the story on the basest level but the performance we saw was thought provoking, entertaining and attention grabbing. The story was easy to follow - even for a novice like me - and the attention to detail in costume, set, words and music made for a sensational experience.

I felt the story was not well thought through and the music the same. I feel it was kind of forced into a musical. There were only a few melodies and memorable songs.

Not a thought provoking and poignant epic. This is rowdy, raunchy crowd pleasing fun with excellent music and 80’s nostalgia. Definitely for teens and up.

It was brilliant, amazingly executed, great acting and fantastic singing by all performers. I sat in the right side of the Royal Circl, did have minor restrictions in my view but not enough to take away from my experience of watching. So glad I got to catch it!

I wasn’t sure what to expect but from the start it was amazing. Such brilliant acting, singing and comic timing from all the cast. Some fantastic songs now stuck in my head. Seats were ok too. Great view apart from right in the corner of the stage. Staff at theatre helpful and warming too as well as comfy seats. A must see for any musical theatre fan!
