The much-loved staple of British children’s literature has appeared in books, television, film, and on the shelves of toy stores, and now Luke Sheppard brings to life the story of a Peruvian bear searching for a home in London on the West End stage, with this brand new musical full of original songs.

What is Paddington: The Musical about?
Paddington Bear first appeared in the 1950s children’s books by Michael Bond and has since become somewhat of a cultural icon. The charmingly polite bespectacled bear with his iconic coat and hat and his love for marmalade sandwiches has won hearts all around Britain.
His story begins with being found at Paddington Station by the Brown family, having arrived in London from Peru in search of a home. His innocent curiosity means he is constantly getting into trouble, while also making new and unlikely friends along the way, the perfect recipe for an unforgettable adventure.
Paddington: The Musical is directed by Luke Sheppard, with original music and lyrics by Tom Fletcher, and a book by Jessica Swale. It will hit the stage at the Savoy Theatre on November 1st. Fun for familiesI really liked Paddington himself, the messages and the acting. The songs were fair but not memorable. The scenery was lovely but almost becoming a ‘ screen’ for a backdrop at times- we do not pay for screens- there is Telly at home. Finally I nearly left as it was FAR TOO LOUD. Absurdly loud- we are not deaf. I had to borrow earplugs!

Fun!For someone who generally avoids musicals and only came along as company, I thought it was fantastic. This show is fun from beginning to end. It is performed with joy and enthusiasm, with excellent performances throughout. Its humour and pathos meld perfectly.The music is perfect and the wit of the lyrics is superb. The staging and lighting are inspiring. It is paced exquisitely and the time flies by. All-in-all, an amazing experience.

The grandchildren loved itThe grandchildren: 12, 14, 17 loved it. As with many shows it came alive in the second half. It was remarkable that Paddington was actually acting to someone else's voice. The character was entirely believable. There appeared to be some unnecessary smut that probably went over the children’s head and was too pantomime like for adults; it wasn’t clever. I’m far from a prude or even bothered by innuendo but when it is just pathetic and cheap Ilost the point of what story they were trying to tell. Bonnie Langford was magnificent.

A word of caution with regard to people who are light sensitive or of a nervous disposition, we didn't see any signage to warn of the sudden light explosion.
