Opening the Young Vic's 2026/27 season is the world premiere of Thelma & Louise, a brand-new musical adaptation of Callie Khouri's comedy-drama directed by Ridley Scott and starring Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon. Best friends Thelma Dickinson and Louise Sawyer go on a spontaneous weekend getaway that turns nightmarish when Thelma is nearly raped by a stranger and Louise shoots and kills him to protect her. The two women wind up on a run, embarking on a road trip to Mexico while being pursued by the FBI.
Directed by Trip Cullman (Choir Boy), Thelma & Louise features music and lyrics by Neko Case, and stars Amy Lennox (Cabaret, Kinky Boots) and Rachel Tucker (Wicked, Come From Away) in the title roles. Thought provoking, emotive and beautifully orchestrated.There are posters warning of the explicit scenes, including rape. These scenes are emotive but in context. The story is another reminder about women’s vulnerability - told in an entertaining format. The choreography is clever, singing is fabulous. Highly recommend.

Great performances by the two leadsI really enjoyed the two leads in this show and they had amazing chemistry. The set was amazing and the music was a mix of country western and ballad with a Little rock. While show opens with them coming off of the car wreck, I would have preferred to see the ending staged in some kind of vehicle driving towards the set of the Grand canyon that was shown. While the ending the did was valid it just didn't do it for me.

Very good new musicalThe show stuck very close to the story of Phil and Louise for those that you’ve seen the film. There is lots of effects throughout the show which worked very well however, only downside was for a show that heavily features a car chase. There was no cars featured at all in the show also the ending where they go off the Cliff could’ve been done in a better way as everyone said they thought they would run into the back of the Stage.

Great acting, singing and dancingEverything about the show was a good reflection of the original film. The two lead characters were brilliant. Not suitable for children or young teenagers as quite a lot of swearing and scenes/expressions of a sexual nature. Good music and dancing and the cast adopted the American accent so well. Thoroughly recommend.

Entertainment par excellenceI came with my daughter on our trip from Canada and we both enjoyed it immensely ! It stirred up lots of emotions and there never was a dull Moment! The acting was better than original and I loved how close to script was masterful. I enjoyed the songs and even though I really loved the soundtrack for the movie , the melody and lyrics were superb. Well done !
