The Comedy About Spies in London

This madcap play about Cold War spies delivers farce at its finest. Expect a feast of misunderstandings, miscommunication and mistaken identity from the always-riotous Mischief Theatre.

About The Comedy About Spies

MI6. CIA. KGB. LOL... are you ready for some funny? This is the perfect play to get your funny bones going, fresh from the creators of The Play That Goes Wrong and just as potty. Welcome to The Comedy About Spies, an action packed, totally hilarious West End treat.

This extremely silly action-packed comedy thriller is set in 1960s London, where a rogue British agent steals the plans for a new top secret weapon. Spies from the CIA and KGB get together at the Piccadilly Hotel to plan how to find the mole and get the file back. But when three actors auditioning for the title role in the first James Bond film, Dr No, arrive at the hotel, things start to go very wrong. As the stakes on stage reach boiling point, so do the laughs.

Mischief Theatre was founded in 2008 by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields, students at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Originally creating brilliant improvised comedic shows, in 2012 they took their first step into theatre. Since then their unique blend of physical comedy, brilliant playwrighting, choreography, stunts and gags has always gone down a storm.

The fictional Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society made the team's name thanks to The Play That Goes Wrong, an award-winner, and their TV series The Goes Wrong Show was just as popular. They join Mischief's productions The Comedy About A Bank Robbery, Magic Goes Wrong, Peter Pan Goes Wrong, Mind Mangler, and Mischief Movie Night.

The Comedy About Spies cast and creatives

The Comedy About Spies is written by original Mischief company members Henry Lewis and Henry Shields, directed by Matt Di Carlo, and produced by Kenny Wax and Stage Presence in association with Jo Danvers.

The new spy comedy from Mischief Theatre is a must-see for its hilarious mix of chaotic misadventures, clever twists, and signature slapstick humor that will leave you laughing from start to finish.

Laughing, and more laughing

Just a really well written, well performed very clever show. It's a good solid comedy from start to finish. Great take and spoof on the spy genre with enough laughs to make the time pass effortlessly.

A comedy that all can enjoy

The only slight criticism is the story line concerning the mother and son. Unlikely that the mother would have allowed the son to remain a single agent. And Unlikely he would have shot her. Or am I over thinking this!!!

Laughed until it hurt

If you love silly humour, this is the show for you. From the first moment, we were laughing. Didn’t want it to end, so cleverly written, creative and well executed. It was up there with the best shows I’ve ever seen. Some top gags that we were quoting afterwards. Top class

The Comedy What Goes Right

Another great -- if somewhat imperfect -- show from the team which brought us 'The Play That Goes Wrong' (among others). Funny and well-written (this one has an actual plot the resolution of which you actually care about!) but with some pacing problems here and there and well as at least one seemingly unresolved element. Still timing is key and serves the action well in addition to a plethora of great sight gags and more.

Partly Restricted view seats are not worth buying as you can’t see a lot of the show. Fortunately a coupke didn't return for the 2nd half so we were able to move along and see more of the stage

Full of energy and great fun -

Good show

Good show. Traditional British comedy getting its laughs from misunderstandings and a strong sense of the ridiculous. If you like that comedy style, and I do, you'll enjoy this show.

Cleave, witty, side-splittingly funny and very entertaining

The Comedy About Spies was a very cleavely writting, witty, very funny and extremely enteraining show. We laughed all the way through. The cast are increditable. Having seen The Play That Goes Wrong before we were not disappointed by this play. Loved every minute of it.

Laughs from start to end

The laughter started in the first minute of the show and kept going to the end. It is a very particular kind of humour – very slapstick and farcical but not crude. The set was very clever – I particularly liked the way that the bedrooms were done! The storyline isn’t particularly strong, but that’s not why you’d go to see the show
