The multi award-winning production of Miss Saigon has announced that it will play its final performance in the West End on 27 February 2016.
However, the news of the shows West End exit came with the silver lining that the closure date comes at the end of an extension that will see the record-breaking production play for another 6 months, far more than was previously speculated.
Producer Cameron Mackintosh said in a statement ‘I am delighted to announce a final extension of my hugely successful new production of Miss Saigon at the Prince Edward Theatre. This record-breaking and award-winning production is already repeating its success in Japan and Korea and is planned to open in Germany, Australia and Broadway in the next two years’.
Fans of Miss Saigon can also breath a sigh of relief, with the news that the shows original stars Jon Jon Briones and Eva Noblezada will stay on in their celebrated leading roles. They will be joined by the current supporting cast of Siobhan Dillon playing the role of Ellen, Natalie Mendoza as Gigi, Chris Peluso as Chris, Sangwoong Jo as Thuy and Hugh Maynard as John.
Once Miss Saigon closes at the Prince Edward Theatre, there is sure to be quite a fight to secure the venue, with rumours circulating that Broadway smash-hit Something Rotten! and Disney’s Aladdin both have their eyes on the centrally located iconic West End theatre.
Miss Saigon is now booking until 27 February 2016, which will be the last chance to see Boublil and Schönberg's epic musical in the West End for quite some time.
