Martin Guerre is a musical by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil, creators of Les Misérables and Miss Saigon. Based on the real-life historical case of imposture, it follows a young peasant couple in 16th century rural France. Years after Betrande's husband Martin abandoned her and left their village, a man arrives at their home, claiming to be the returned Martin. He's far kinder and more loving than the husband Bertrande remembers, but their happiness is cut short when the villagers accuse 'Martin' of being an imposter.

The story of Martin Guerre has been retold multiple times, and even adapted into a film starring Sean Bean. The musical adaptation premiered in 1996 at the Prince Edward Theatre in London, later undergoing several major revisions. Now a new revival is coming to the Old Vic, directed by Old Vic Artistic Director Matthew Warchus. Warchus said, "The show has been radically reworked, featuring new lyrics, new folk-inflected orchestrations and an immersive in-the-round staging.

Martin Guerre will open at the Old Vic in October, with dating and casting to be revealed.
