Review: THRILLER LIVE at the Apollo Theatre

Thriller Live As a Michael Jackson fan I was intrigued how the evening would pan out, hoping it wouldn’t just be a concert with carbon copy Michael Jacksons.

I needn't have worried.

Although it was nice to see some amazing replicas of the famous Jackson performances, including a flawless impersonation by Dajiow, other singers added their own flare and character to the music. This was essential as Michael’s are some big shoes to fill and it was refreshing that they had the courage to bring their own personality to the songs. Trenyce Cobbins show-stopping performance of The Way You Make Me Feel stood out amidst many fantastic renditions of the hits and less well known material.

The audience were encouraged to sing along and even get up and dance by outstanding lead vocalists who provided seamless transitions between songs and decades. Marvellous dancers set the scene for a whole range of genres, from getting down and groovy for the Jackson Five disco songs, to dark and naughty for Dirty Diana. There were standout performances from Jessica Craft and Christopher Gordon but the whole company of dancers really made the show extra special.

So if you love Michael Jackson and songs like I Want You Back, ABC, Can You Feel It, Off The Wall, The Way You Make Me Feel, Smooth Criminal, Beat It, Billie Jean, Dirty Diana, Bad, Rock With You, They Don’t Care About Us, Dangerous, Heal The World, and, of course Thriller (or even if you don’t) THRILLER LIVE is a feel good show that will have you up and dancing.
