Based on Fellini’s 1954 film, La Strada is a terrific ensemble piece devised by the company under Sally Cookson’s direction with “writer in the room” Mike Akers. The show follows faithfully the story of Fellini’s film but more importantly it stays true to the fairy tale spirit of the original.

Review: ANNIE GET YOUR GUN at The Union Theatre
By Phil Willmott Monday, May 29 2017, 07:44
If like me you're a fan of good, old fashioned musicals and you're theatre-going on a budget then you've a treat in store at the Union Theatre this month.
They're currently presenting Irving Berlin's classic show Annie Get Your Gun in a perfect pocket sized production with a great cast and peppy little band that does full justice to the gold plated score. It includes You Can't Get A Man With A Gun, Anything You Can Do, Doin' What Comes Naturally and of course There's no Business Like Show Business.

Review: MOTOWN THE MUSICAL at Shaftesbury Theatre
By Steve Markwick Friday, May 26 2017, 14:57
Love it or hate it, the juke box musical has been with us for nearly 30 years and while claims of its demise are probably premature it needs a fresher approach than the one at Motown The Musical.
The show opens in 1983 during rehearsals for the 25th anniversary Motown TV special celebrating the rags to riches story of founder Berry Gordy.

Review THE COLOUR PURPLE: Great News for Stage Struck Kids and their Cash Strapped Parents
By Phil Willmott Tuesday, May 23 2017, 09:59
Last night, May 21st, saw an event at the Cadogan Hall conceived to encourage more kids from culturally diverse backgrounds to not only appreciate West End performances but to aspire to perform themselves.
It took the form of a scintillating concert performance of Broadway musical The Colour Purple featuring some of the best black performers in the U.K. spending their night off from major London and touring shows like Dreamgirls, The Bodyguard and Jesus Christ Superstar to sing with a choir of young performers and no doubt inspiring every one of them.

A Second Look at OBSESSION starring Jude Law
By Phil Willmott Monday, May 22 2017, 10:32
Fellow critic Nastazja Domaradzka raved about Ivo Von Hoves production of Obsession starring Jude Law recently so I was delighted to be invited by the Barbican Theatre to the launch of their new season, which included a chance to check it out for myself.
