Trailblazing New York artist Taylor Mac and the Philharmonia Orchestra perform the UK orchestral premiere of Mac's A 24-Decade History of Popular Music, an abridged version of the original 24-hour-long performance art concert that has dazzled critics and audiences. It reimagines history as a dazzling, deeply personal musical experience, spanning 240 years and taking you on a journey through the soul of the US. This genre-defying work blends ballads, anthems, disco and more into a bold and joyous theatrical event. This boundary-pushing performance is a personal exploration of society and identity that combines popular song, interactive theatre, extraordinary costumes and poignant storytelling.
Taylor Mac is an award winning American actor, theatre-maker, and singer-songwriter known for ambitious works that combine music, queer history, political critique, and participatory performance. Part orchestral concert, part performance art, this provocative, celebratory show is filled with extraordinary costumes and irreverent humour, and challenges audiences to reconsider whose stories are told and how we listen to them. It challenges social structures and responds to current events while celebrating the communities and voices that have helped shape America's history. Get ready for a stunning fusion of music, storytelling and theatrical imagination, and an experience that is both intimate and epic, and was hailed by a New York Times critic as 'one of the greatest experiences of my life'.
Book now for a truly unique, unforgettable, and glitter-soaked journey into American history.
