About Back To The Future
A “Feelgood triumph” (Telegraph), Back To The Future has been a cult classic since the blockbuster film was released in 1985. Now a pop culture phenomenon, the musical adaptation began its life at the Manchester Opera House in 2020. A year later, it flew into the Adelphi Theatre where it has been lighting up the West End ever since. Known for its captivating special effects, catchy tunes and for enabling the beloved 80s movie to life - it’s no surprise that it's gone on to snap up award wins, including Best New Musical at the Olivier Awards.
Back To The Future - The Story
Haven’t seen Back to the Future yet? It tells the story of Marty McFly, a teenager who is accidentally transported back to 1955 in a time-travelling DeLorean car made by his crazy inventor friend Dr Emmett Brown. But when he goes back in time, the course of history changes and he ends up having to make his own parents fall in love otherwise he’ll cease to exist.

So who stars in this new production? You've got Ben Joyce playing Marty McFly, best known for playing Frankie Valli in West End Musical Jersey Boys. Cory English plays Doctor Emmett Brown, Oliver Nicholas is George McFly and Sophie Naglik is Jennifer Parker. The rest of the cast includes Sarah Goggin as Lorraine Baines, Jay Perry as Goldie Wilson, Jordan Pearson as Biff Tannen, Lee Ormsby as Strickland, Rhodri Watkins as Dave McFly, and Patricia Wilkins as Linda McFly. Direction comes from the Tony-winning director John Rando, of Urinetown and On The Town fame, and the design team includes sets and costumes by Tim Hatley, lighting by Hugh Vanstone, sound from Gareth Owen and video from Finn Ross. The choreography comes from Chris Bailey, and the illusions from Paul Kieve.

Absolutely spectacular!I took my boyfriend to see Back To The Future for his birthday, not having seen the film myself. We were both absolutely blown away with the scenery and scene transitions, lighting and effects - by far the best I’ve ever seen at the West End. The storyline was easy to follow and the acting was great! Our favourite was the professor - he was so funny and his dancing and singing was brilliant. Excellent views from our seats - would definitely recommend. Thank you!

An absolute blockbuster. Catch it if you can !I am not generally a big fan of musicals but this production was absolutely amazing. The quality of the music, dancing and singing was exceptional and were perfectly intertwined with the storyline of the original movie. The stage sets, scenery and special effects, especially the Delorean car (!!), were incredible. Additionally, the friendly and professional service of the theatre staff made it a perfect afternoon.

From the bar to the curtain, the Adelphi Theatre’s design sets the scene for show’s sci-fi theme. Bob Gale’s adaptation of the movie’s script is a faithful one. There are very few plot changes, and all the favourite jokes remain- Calvin Klein, Ronald Reagan, “Why don’t you make like a tree and get outta here?!”.
