Review: STORIES at the National Theatre
By Phil Willmott Friday, October 19 2018, 07:17
Playwright and director Nina Raine is extraordinarily talented, almost everything she writes and/or stages seems to attract awards and acclaim like a magnet. Her last major piece CONSENT transferred from the National Theatre to the West End and was a searing, funny and poignant mating dance to rival anything by Strindberg, Chekhov or Ibsen.

Review: THE INHERITANCE at the Noel Coward Theatre
By Phil Willmott Thursday, October 18 2018, 13:54
The West End now has TWO era defining productions in what’s shaping up to be a golden year for London Theatre. And both shows opened in the last ten days!
You can read about Marianne Elliot’s triumphant re-conception of Stephen Sondheim’s musical COMPANY here but if plays are your thing you really need to catch THE INHERITANCE at the Noel Coward Theatre.

Review: COMPANY at the Gielgud Theatre
By Phil Willmott Thursday, October 18 2018, 12:21
As we predicted the modernised version of Sondheim’s 1970s musical COMPANY has enjoyed a triumphant opening night and a raft of five star reviews approving of the radical step of changing the central character (usually Bobby) to a female one (now Bobbie).
Gavin Spokes (Harry), Rosalie Craig (Bobbie), and Mel Giedroyc (Sarah) in COMPANY.

Review: I’M NOT RUNNING at The National Theatre
By Phil Willmott Monday, October 15 2018, 09:16
David Hare has been a giant amidst UK playwrights for over thirty years. His plays PRAVDA (co-written with Howard Brenton) and his “state of the nation" trilogy at the National Theatre, RACING DEMON, MURMURING JUDGES & THE ABSENCE OF WAR, are highlights of my theatre going career. But, I'M NOT RUNNING, his latest script to benefit from the full production resources of our premiere venue, is a waste of everybody’s time.

EXCLUSIVE: The TWILIGHT ZONE will follow EUGENIUS and FOXFINDER at the Ambassadors Theatre
By Phil Willmott Monday, October 8 2018, 09:35
I'm sad to report that FOXFINDER, the eerie new play that showed such promise on its fringe premiere, just didn’t attract enough good reviews to attract an audience in the West End despite a star cast. It’ll be closing at the Ambassador’s Theatre on 20th October.
