Review of Shakespeare in Love
By Daniel Perks Friday, August 1 2014, 12:35
Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day? Maybe not, but I would spend many a sunny day inside watching this production again and again!
OK, I’m going to admit this here and now, I’m not really a fan of period drama… Now I know that these days I’m verging on sacrilegious but I just felt like I had to get that off my chest. There’s good news and bad news about this National Theatre production of an ancient Greek drama, starring Helen McCrory.
The good news is McCrory herself who gives a gripping performance as an exiled queen driven to murder; the bad news is the adaptation by Ben Power, who makes some odd choices which in my opinion weakens this critically acclaimed revival.

New cast members for Matilda the Musical
By Oliver Mitford Tuesday, July 29 2014, 15:16
Some brand new cast members are deep in preparations to join the Olivier Award-winning production of Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical in September this year.
Leading West End actor Craige Els will don the tight black bun and grotesque facial wart of maniacal headmistress Miss Trunchbull. Els will be joined by Haley Flaherty as the sweet but downtrodden Miss Honey, and James Clyde and Kay Murphy will take on Matilda’s ghastly parents Mr & Mrs Wormwood. Plus two new young stars of tomorrow, Violet Tucker and Matilda Shapland will join Lottie Sicila and Tasha Chapple in the title part of Matilda.

However you may feel about stage adaptations of films dominating the West End no one can deny that this one is first class entertainment. It’s funny, romantic and thrilling, dripping with beautiful costumes adorning a huge cast on a simple but stylish set that can be manipulated and lit to create plenty of breathtaking moments.
