James Phillips’s new play McQueen was scheduled to begin previews at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on 13 August, but the first 10 days of previews have been unexpectedly cancelled at the last minute.
The production, which had its world premiere at the St James Theatre in May of this year, has now announced that it will now open its doors to audiences on the 22 August 2015, with the official press night on 27 August 2015.
Producers of the critically acclaimed play have cited a mix-up with the rehearsal schedule and an underestimated technical rehearsal period as the reasons behind the cancelled performances. In a statement they said, ‘With all the changes that were being made to the production for the transfer to the Theatre Royal Haymarket, we needed a longer technical rehearsal period than we'd originally allowed in the schedule and, in order to be totally ready to present the production in front of an audience, we took the difficult decision to cancel the first few previews’.
Directed by John Caird, McQueen is based around the life of iconic fashion designer Alexander McQueen and tells the tragic, but inspirational story of his relationship with long-time friend and muse, Isabella Blow and stars Tracy-Anna Oberman, Stephen Wight, Carly Bawden and Laura Rees.
McQueen now begins previews at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from 22 August 2015 and is currently booking through to 7 November 2015.
