Showstopper! The Improvised Musical (Other Palace) description

Showstopper! The Improvised musical at the Other Palace

Grab a load of brilliant music. Take a few handfuls of great comedy. Mix them together and add a load of creative improvisation, plus ideas from the audience. What do you get? A show that's different every time, unique every time, driven by people like you. It's dazzlingly good, it's on at the Other Palace and it's called Showstopper!

Showstopper! Is an Improvised Musical Comedy show that was first created back in 2008. Since then it has rarely been off the stage somewhere or other in the UK, and it makes friends and influences people wherever it lands. It's so popular it invariably sells out at the Edinburgh Festival, and in 2011 it was given its own BBC Radio 4 series. After a 10 week 20915 run in the West End, it won an Olivier Award.

So what can you expect? This is an improvised musical based on suggestions from the audience, who provide the setting for the action and the title. They also decide on the musical style and the musical theatre composers, whose tunes are then cleverly woven into the show.

Dylan Emery and Sean McCann are in charge and the show stars Ruth Bratt, Justin Brett, Pippa Evans, Susan Harrison, Adam Meggido and Philip Pellew, plus Andrew Pugsley, Lucy Trodd, and Sarah-Louise Young as the main comic actors. Duncan Walsh Atkins plays keyboards as well as being the musical director and Chris Ash plays keyboards and reeds as well as being the deputy musical director. Alex Freeman does the percussion and the technical director, Damian Robertson, is in charge of improvising the lighting too. Last but far from least, direction comes from Adam Meggido and Dylan Emery.

There's also a children's show called The Showstoppers' Kids' Show, but this is the grown up version, created by Meggido and Emery and backed by Keith Strachan, all of whom still run the show.

The plot? You'll meet a musicals writer on a deadline, and he needs your help. As you shout out your suggestions the action begins. The cast and band create a brand new musical in front of your eyes, full of hilarious characters, amazing dance routines, fabulous songs and exciting story lines, all sprinkled with Broadway fairy dust. Why not help them build their next big show?

As The Times dais, 'If this is that improv can do, you wonder why anyone bothers writing anything down.’ As The Evening Standard says, this is 'A success story that could run and run and never repeat itself.’ The Telegraph says it's 'Incredible… so polished it defies belief.’ Great reviews, an incredibly good show... grab tickets as soon as you can.

Brilliant night out so do funny

Awe inspiring

It is incredible to see the actors, musicians and the technicians work together to bring the show together. The teamwork and understanding of each was a joy to watch. The only downside is that you can see who are the strong improvisers of the company and who are unfortunately not. Other than that it was a great spectacle to behold and i would definitely come back again because it would always be different!
