The Winslow Boy in London
Lindsay Posner directs Terence Rattigan’s compelling play, The Winslow Boy, based on a true story of a father’s fight to clear his son’s name when he is expelled after being convicted of theft.
First staged in 1946, the battle between personal principles and conscience plus an impenetrable establishment under the media spotlight makes The Winslow Boy as relevant today as it was then.

Overall the acting was brilliant but that of the Winslow boy and his brother was a little over the top and made the characters a little unreal.

It was a mistake to revive this play. The film which came out a few years ago was so much better. The actors on the evning I went were shrill and artificial and sometimes they were inaudible. Set mediocre, no scene changes (possibly written that way, boring) and I didn't enjoy it very much at all.

Poor audienceThe show was marred by my neighbours in the audience. the gentleman to my right spent the majority of the first half, off and on, excavating his nose and eating the pickings. e did this completely unselfconsciously and vigorously, actually jogging my arm as his elbow circled in his efforts. A couple in front snogged at times. the lady on my left checked texts in hopeless addiction, illuminating the space in her lap, a real distraction to the eye. Another man behind tookphotos with his phone in the interval, of ythe audience and of his friends presence within the auditorium. peoplefurthertomyright knocked over their empty beer glasses onto the floor. I didnot pay 50 to sit amongst his and felt I had a good case for money back, but it would have been difficult to explain and one is in danger of being thought of as a grumpy old lady. Myenjoyment of the show was substantially curtailed as a result of these distractions.
