A Midsummer Night's Dream in London
Four young lovers caught in a chaotic love quadrangle flee into the woods outside Athens, where a group of would-be actors are rehearsing for a play that's poised to go wrong. The hapless humans soon find themselves caught in the middle of a bitter dispute in the fairy kingdom, where King Oberon and Queen Titania are in a lovers' quarrel of their own. When the mischievous trickster Puck slips the lovers a love potion and transforms the player Bottom into a donkey-headed beast, confusion and hilarity ensue, as reality threatens to collide with the realm of dreams.
No season at the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre is complete without a bit of Shakespeare, and no Shakespeare play is better suited to a beautiful outdoor theatre than A Midsummer Night's Dream, which immerses audiences into an enchanted forest filled with fairies, spells, and romance. This blissful, dreamy production is directed by Atri Banerjee (The Glass Menagerie, Julius Caesar, RSC), with a score by Maimuna Memon (Portia Coughlan, Almeida; The Grapes of Wrath) that's filled with gorgeous folk-infused melodies. Experience Shakespeare's enchanting comedy, filled with witty humour, heartwarming romance, and dizzying twists and turns, right here in a magical outdoor setting.
Book now and kick off your summer with Shakespeare's most magical comedy in the heart of Regent's Park.

The production was so badly done that I left in the interval ( quite a number of people didn’t even stay that long. This wonderful Shakespeare play should have some magic and this was completely lacking.

AppallingAppalling production. All the magic and poetry of this play were completely destroyed by this production. Terrible music drowned out the actors and presenting some of the most delightful parts of the play in rap music was disastrous. It was ugly, harsh, shouty and lacking all magic and enchantment. A Midsummer nights nightmare.

If you are considering buying a ticket, be aware that much of the experience relies on the beauty of the park itself rather than the production. The setting is stunning, but you can enjoy that without paying for the show. The stage design was very basic, the production lacked creativity, and the acting was underwhelming. For the price, I expected a far more professional and compelling performance.

Desperately trying to be maximum inclusiveThe theatre itself is absolutely beautiful but it was for both of us the worst play we’ve ever been to. The female lead was played by a trans man with boobs and a man’s voice, another was played by a deaf man who was hard to understand of course, a big girl with crutches, a pink haired lesbian,… I don’t have anything against loving whoever you love but this cast does not represent a normal life situation… it feels like pushing that topic too hard

A dreamlike gateway to the world of ShakespeareThe arboreal setting evoked a fairytale atmosphere. The refreshments were varied and reasonably priced. It was a heatwave, however staff provided lots and lots of iced water jugs which helped. Shakespeare would have been proud of the crowd pleasing portrayal of his work… just the right amount of humour too!! Thank you we will be coming again. Would love to see Macbeth here 😬😉

Unbearably AwfulIt was so bad that we left in the interval and as we walking to the tube, we encountered several other people who had also left because it was so bad. The bizarre bursting into song at random points, the appallingly over the top acting, and the unnecessary modern vernacular inserted into the actual language. The only performance that wasn’t terrible as the person who played Helen.

Absolutely dreadful pretentious tosh. The show is a complete abomination. It treats the audience with contempt. The acting is hammy. The sound production poor. Do not waste your money or time.

A whimsical eveningI was not sure what to expect of this show (having never seen a Shakespeare play before) but it was a truly riveting evening. The show had humour, excellent performers and amazing musicians. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The seat was more comfortable than I expected too which was nice! A truly lovely evening in the open air of regents park.

Ethereal with a modern touchLoved the dynamic between Puck and Oberon, the modern touches and the music which all added to the humour and magic

An unexpected version…I knew this would be a modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, but unfortunately it just didn’t work for me. I often felt lost and confused, struggling to understand the director’s vision. The cast delivered strong performances, and the actors were clearly talented. However, the production was nothing like I had expected. I was hoping for at least some set design, props, or even a few costumes to help bring the story to life, but the staging was extremely minimal. By the interval, I was seriously considering leaving, and in the end I decided not to stay for the second half. Sadly, this production just wasn’t for me.

Great experience for tweensGrandparent treat was a success! Matinee Saturday show was great for 12 year olds. Watching Shakespeare being brought to life has made the classroom work much easier. Long ice cream queues were predictable due to the hot weather. But a great memory made.

A creative and absolutely theatrical showI found this production to by mighty creative. I was thoroughly entertained and surprised all the way through. I could never predict what the actors, singers and accompanying music and costumes were going to do. The funny bits were VERY funny, the actors use of space on and especially off stage was awesome, and the concert style performance of some of the songs was so cool to watch. I felt like I was experiencing Shakespeare for the first time. A great and different way to spend time at the theatre for sure.

A must see show!!!!I recently went to see *A Midsummer Night's Dream*, and it was absolutely amazing. From the moment the performance began, the atmosphere was captivating and magical, perfectly capturing the enchanting spirit of Shakespeare's play. The cast delivered fantastic performances throughout, bringing both the comedy and charm of the story to life. The energy on stage was infectious, and the audience was completely drawn into the world of fairies, lovers, and mischief. Every scene felt vibrant and engaging, with excellent pacing and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. What stood out most was the overall atmosphere—it felt immersive, joyful, and genuinely special. It's one of those productions that reminds you why live theatre can be such a memorable experience. I enjoyed it so much that I'm already eager to watch it again. Highly recommended for both Shakespeare enthusiasts and anyone looking for a magical evening at the theatre.
