Cabaret in London
Welcome to the Kit Kat Club in 1930s Berlin, a place where everyone can relax, be free and be themselves despite the political storm rolling in. This is the intimate, electrifying West End production of Cabaret, one of the most successful musicals of all time with an outstanding cast, a sophisticated night club setting, gorgeous show tunes, and costumes to die for.
Why you should see Cabaret
- This production always contains one of the hottest casts in town, with Luke Treadway and Cara Delevinge joining the fold in March for a limited time.
- An immersive experience that has completely transformed the Playhouse Theatre into a 1930s club in Berlin.
- This show is more than just a musical; it’s a powerful social commentary on the political and cultural upheaval during its time.
Top acting talent
Cabaret has been known for its first-class casting since it opened in 2021, although it's not just the lead characters that shine in this show. There's also an ensemble and a prologue company which help audiences to have a night they'll never forget at the Kit Kat Club.
Jake Shears is best known as the lead singer of Scissor Sisters and Rebecca Lucy Taylor as Self Esteem. She’s making her West End debut. Luke Treadway previously delighted audiences in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time and Cara Delevingne in Anna Karenina. Taite-Elliot Drew has worked on stage and screen since graduating from drama school in 2016, with credits including The Beggars Opera and Into The Woods, and Michael Ahomka-Lindsay received a WhatsOnStage Award nomination for his performance in the musical Newsies.
Cabaret debuted in 1966 with a book by Joe Masteroff, music by John Kinder and lyrics by Fred Ebb, based on the play by John van Druten and the stories of Christopher Isherwood. It has been revived numerous times: at the West End’s Lyric Theatre in 2006 directed by Rufus Norris, and in 2021 at the Savoy Theatre, which went on tour in 2013, 2017 and 2019. There was a 2014 Broadway revival and a 2021 West End revival. This latest production has won seven Oliviers including Best Musical Revival, and a Broadway production is planned for 2024.
Directed by Rebecca Frecknall, the set and costume design is by Tom Scutt, the choreography by Julia Cheng, lighting design by Isabella Byrd, sound design by Nick Lidster, and musical supervision by Jennifer Whyte.
Two compelling stories in one musical
The story whisks us back to 1931 where the English night club performer Sally Bowles works in Berlin’s notorious Kit Kat Club. The plot follows her relationship with the American writer Cliff Bradshaw, a plot supported by a harrowing parallel story about the boarding house owner Fraulein Schneider and her Jewish lover Herr Schultz, a couple struggling to navigate the growing dangers of Weimar Germany.
Cabaret delivers a highly emotional experience. The political threat people faced in the 1930s was real, adding extra power to the show. Relationships were wrecked, families destroyed, and trust broken.
The score is appropriately thrilling, a series of show tunes you’ll recognise without realising you knew them. The Sing-along classics like Willkommen, So What?, Telephone Song and Don't Tell Mama, Mein Herr, Perfectly Marvellous, Two Ladies, Cabaret itself and many more make it a feast of song, dance and colour.
With its award-winning reputation both through performances and creativity, Cabaret offers audiences one of the most thrilling immersive experiences on offer in the West End. Don’t miss out on your opportunity to see for yourself why audiences book to see this show again and again.

Firstly I really enjoyed the show, loved the costumes, music, stage setting. I loved the pre show entertainment and the atmosphere created by the cast and musicians. I would say this is not suitable for young children as it is quite explicit in parts. I already knew the story and felt that, if you were not familiar with it, it would seem rather disjointed at times. The actor playing Cliff was quite softly spoken and was sometimes difficult to understand.

Fantastic CabaretThe entire experience from entering the theater, pre-show shots and performance until the very last note was amazing. Such a cool and edgy vibe with stunning performances from each and every actor. We were not aware of the storyline and it takes a sharp but interesting turn halfway through the musical. Don't Go too Early! The actual show itself was excellent and enjoyable. I found that the weird, loud music played for an hour before the main performance left me in an unsettled mood, concerned about what may be to come. The show itself was wonderful. My advice is go into the auditorium as close to the start time as possible.

Exhilarating!!Fabulous entertainment!! Thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the performance. While interactive in several ways it was very artfully done and did not feel forced or overly intrusive at all. The only negative of the evening was pre show. You are encouraged to arrive about an hour before the show start time to experience the pre show atmosphere where there are little performances going on in the various bars. Because of that, the bar areas were super crowded and you are constantly jostled as people push around you as the bars are quite small. So you cant really enjoy your drink or the entertainment. Once inside the theatre proper, that’s all forgotten. Being a performance in the round has pluses and minuses - clearly it’s better if you can get a seat in the stalls close to the front. Our seats were front row of dress circle which has a decent view even if leg room is a bit cramped. Really interesting how without any scenery, just some artful use of a trapdoor, a portion of the stage that raises and lowers and some effective lighting you follow the action as it moves between the Kit Kat Club and Fraulein Schneiders boarding house. Really cool! Overall it was a terrific evenings entertainment and we would love to see the show again. The actor playing Master of Ceremonies was a real stand out - and for me he stole the show. But the whole cast was terrific. Sally Bowles has a fabulous voice, delivering all the show stopping numbers with great energy. Her performance of “Life is a cabaret” actually captured some real pathos, I thought, which mirrors the sadness of her life and the decisions she feels she has to make. Quite moving!! Thanks to a great cast, orchestra and crew for a truly amazing night!

Best seats, best show, utterly spectacularThe second the show started I knew this was going to be an experience to remember, and my new favourite musical. The costumes were divine, the makeup was 1920s to a T. The characters were larger than life. The MC was outstanding, his voice, movements, character… everything was perfect. The dancing was hilarious at times, moving at others, but always captivating and exhilarating. I just wanted more, more, more. The old couple’s Pineapple Song was just… the best 😂🍍The story of Hitler’s Germany that underpinned the show took our breath away at times. Sally was absolutely phenomenal. Her rendition of Caberet had me in tears. I teared up, moved, too many times to remember throughout the whole show. It was everything I hoped for and so, so much more. If you get a chance to see a professional show of Cabaret, do it. You won’t be disappointed. I want to go again and again. Heart is full, soul is happy ❤️

Arrive early if you can in order to soak up a great atmosphere and enjoy an unique experience. The staging "in the round" works incredibly well and adds to an intimate but involved evening. I have seen various versions of Cabaret over the years but this just "blew me away". All the cast were fantastic and i doubt if i could see anything better, i would have paid twice as much to see it, it was just a great pleasure to be there.

Nothing spectacular! It really was so boring! I wanted to leave after the first 30 minutes. There were too many performers in a small crowded stage. They were brushing on to each other. There were no props, acting was over the top! I also think that they used the title “Cabaret” to attract people to come and watch the show. I recognised two beautiful songs from the original and that was it. The rest of the songs I did not enjoy at all.

The Kit Kat Club/Playhouse was laid out brilliantly. Loved the use of tables and chairs set out in a cafe club style. We were in the Circle which was great and I preferred the view from there. Brilliant lead performers although when I booked the tickets at Booking.com (May 2022) they advertised Eddie Redmain and Jessie Buckly and once we arrived realised that they had left the show in March, which was a bit naughty. We were also not prepared for the Covid checks as had been to see To Kill a Mocking Bird the week before and there was no check. Feel we should have been pre-warned by booking.com. Great show, fantastic orchestra, great leads and every performer put their all into every aspect of entertaining.

Where was Will?Disappointed that will young was ill but his understudy was a star. some of the others not so good--why cast people like Sian phillips whoi absolutely can't sing? Michelle ryan did well but this role always pales by comparison with Liza. Thought the end was melodramatic and unnecessary (the holocaust has been graphically displayed so many times and in an otherwise lighthearted production it was out of place), but otherwise an enjoyable show.
