Charlotte Keatley’s play is the most performed play written by a woman ever, so it’s a surprise to find that it hasn’t been seen in London since opening at The Royal Court in 1989.

By doing so, they set off a chain reaction in the world of musical theatre that proved that this then trivial art form could comment on more serious aspects of the human condition.
