Kenneth Branagh’s West End season finally revealed

Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company It has been announced that Kenneth Branagh will helm a year-long season of plays in the West End. The star of stage and screen will direct and act in the season due to open at the Garrick Theatre in October 2016.

The plays include The Winter’s Tale and Romeo and Juliet, both by William Shakespeare, Harlequinade by Terence Rattigan, an adaptation of The Painkiller by Francis Veber, and The Entertainer by John Osborne.

Les Miserables The longest running musical in the West End, Les Miserables has extended booking at the Queen’s Theatre on Shaftsbury Avenue through to 26 March 2016, showing once again that this giant of a musical is still as popular as ever.

Could The Girls musical transfer to the West End?

The Girls - London Tim Firth and Gary Barlow’s new musical based on The Calendar Girls is due to open in Leeds this year, but the question is, do the duo have their eyes set on a West End run?

The musical, aptly titled The Girls underwent a workshop period last year, with a stellar cast of Sally Dexter, Harriet Thorpe and Joanna Riding. Now, the musical comedy is due to open at the Leeds Grand from 14 November to 12 December 2015, followed by a month stint at the Lowry in Manchester from 13 January 2016.

Olivier Awards 2015 Round-Up

Olivier Awards This weekend was one of the pivotal awards weekends in the theatre calendar, with the stars of the West End hitting the red carpet to celebrate the best of theatre, dance and opera that London had to offer. The 39th Lawrence Olivier Awards took place on Sunday 12th April at the Royal Opera House and as ever there were some expected wins for the year’s most popular productions but also some surprises as well deserved dark horses crept up unawares.
