A huge hit across South Korea and China, currently entering its third season in Seoul, The Last Man features a book and lyrics by Jishik Kim and music by Seungyeon Kwon. The English language adaptation will be directed by its original Korean director, Daljung Kim, with dramaturgy by Jethro Compton, the Olivier Award-winning writer and director behind The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
In The Last Man, a mysterious virus has consumed the earth, leaving the streets filled with the undead. Armed with supplies to last a year, one survivor locks themself inside Bunker B-103 to wait it out. But as the days go on, the endless isolation starts warping their sense of reality and the bunker becomes a prison as much as a sanctuary. Consumed by old memories, the survivor finds themself wondering whether survival is enough to keep on living for, or whether they should open the bunker door and face whatever waits on the other side. The Last Man is a gripping one-person musical that unfolds like a psychological thriller – part gig, part video diary, part survival story, driven by a live rock score, immersive sound design, and dark humour.
The role of the Survivor will be shared, on alternating nights, by Kiwi-Korean actor Lex Lee (West Side Story, Messiah) and recent Trinity Laban graduate Nabi Brown (Diana the Musical, Dick Whittington and His Cat).
The production will feature design by Shankho Chaudhuri, costume design by Anna Kelsey, lighting design by Cheolmin Cho, and sound design by Liam McDermott.
This new English-language adaptation, developed by NEO Inc., has been specifically tailored for UK audiences. The Last Man will have its premiere at Southwark Playhouse Elephant on 8 May and run until 13 June 2026.
