Producer Bill Kenwright is to be congratulated for taking that most dangerous of financial risks, launching a new musical in the West End. Recent attempts to do so, MADE IN DAGENHAM and BEND IT LIKE BECHAM failed to turn into long running hits.

The National Theatre bring their latest hit to the West End

If anyone tells you that the West End is dumbing down point them in the direction of the Wyndham’s Theatre which is about to play host to a revival of the National Theatre's production of PEOPLE, PLACES AND THINGS.
It’s not a musical, it’s a serious and entertaining new play and such is the appetite for quality drama in London’s theatreland that the run has had to be extended. It’s now booking until 18 June 2016.

Satire and sketch comedy was a vital part of West End theatre in the 1960’s but we don’t see a great deal of it these days so I was surprised to hear that veteran director Max Stafford-Clark still regards it as “a pungent corrective to political pomposity and ambition.”

MISS ATOMIC BOMB, a new musical with book, music & lyrics By Adam Long, Gabriel Vick & Alex Jackson-Long sounds intriguing. It will launch at The St James’s Theatre in March. Adam Long is the co-creator, writer and director of THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (Abridged), which ran off-Broadway and in the West End for nine years and was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Comedy. So he knows all about creating a hit show.
