High Noon in London
Don't miss the world premiere of the first-ever stage adaptation of the thrilling 1952 Western, in which heroic marshall Will Kane faces off with the vengeful outlaw Frank Miller. Billy Crudup and Denise Gough star in this thrilling, epic play adapated by award-winning screenwriter Eric Roth, where the lines between good and evil blur in the countdown to a deadly showdown.
Why you should see High Noon
- If you loved the 1952 film, or if you're a fan of American Westerns, you won't want to miss this first-ever stage adaptation that promises to capture the thrill, urgency, and timelessness of Fred Zinneman's classic.
- Even if you're new to the genre, High Noon has all the ingredients of an epic story: shoot-outs, unforgettable characters, twists and turns, and powerful, timeless themes.
- High Noon has an all-star cast, with Tony and Emmy Award winner Billy Crudup and Olivier Award winner Denise Gough playing the star-crossed lovers Will and Amy.
What is High Noon about?
Fred Zinnemann's 1952 classic Western plays with and deconstructs many of the tropes of the genre. Set in the American West in the 1800s, High Noon follows town marshall Will Kane, who is planning on retiring and spending his days with his new bride Amy Fowler. But Will's old enemy, the dangerous outlaw Frank Miller, is returning to town on the high noon train to seek his revenge for his incarceration. The townsfolk refuse to stand with Will. Amy wants him to flee. But Will is determined to fight Miller, even if he has to do it alone.
Universally hailed as one of the greatest Westerns ever made, written as a searing allegory of Hollywood's blacklist, High Noon feels just as urgently resonant today as it did seventy years ago. Now Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, Dune) and Olivier Award-winning director Thea Sharrock (Equus, After the Dance) bring this iconic film to the stage. An epic story about justice, duty, and courage, and the impossible choices we make to fight for what's most important, this thrilling play stars Billy Crudup (The Morning Show, The Coast of Utopia) and Denise Gough (Andor, People, Places, & Things) as Will and Amy. Producer Paula Wagner said, ‘High Noon will bring the urgency and heart of the classic film to audiences in a way that feels both timeless and powerfully alive today.'
High Noon comes to the Harold Pinter Theatre for a strictly limited run this winter. Book now and experience a sizzling piece of the American Western right here in London.

Excellent 10/10Doesn’t matter if you haven’t seen the original 1952 movie. This production is very powerful. I loved the clock in real time. And the tension at the end was palpable. Very good cast. Infact excellent. And if you’re a fan of The Morning Show you’re in for a real treat. However the stand out performance for me was the young Deputy Sheriff. Had a drink problem but was never drunk. If you know what I mean. Amazing. 10/10

faithful adaptation of a classic filmThe acting, choreography and stage design and set up were all great. It was a faithful adaptation of the 1952 film with Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly with a few modern add ons and still very relevant to our times. Strong female characters. Great music. It was wonderful to hear Denise Gough's beautiful voice and a pleasure to see both her and Billy Crudup live.

Unexpectedly entertainingA charming little theatre - excellent show with plenty of drama and energetic performances. Not the best seats - there was a pole in the way - through it didn’t detract too much from the experience

Fell a little flat. Women actors and sets were great-We love Billy Crudup- but he needs to take more time with his part. His pacing was more TV/screen than stage.

LanguageThe play was very good and followed the story of the original movie well with a couple exceptions. The ending was slightly different but still close. The original movie was a classic and was made during a better time before movies started using vulgar language. I wish the show would have stuck to that. The script was very close to the movie with that exception. The language was not necessary to make the show great. But I enjoyed the show and would go see it again.

Misguided - a waste of time and moneyHigh Noon is a great classic western story which is why it has great appeal. The staging was quite imaginative given that it is difficult to tell this story in a small space. However the idea of adding singing to the staging was a very bad idea particularly given that the lead actress in the Grace Kelly role clearly cannot sing and was hopelessly out of tune. The actress playing the other woman was a little better and can sing at least. The Will Kane character was disappointing and two dimensional at best. Disappointing to put it mildly. Gary Cooper will be turning in his grave!

Better to watch the original filmThe story stepped away from the original film, it couldn’t top it nor even tie with it.
