Henry VIII in London

See the story of Henry VIII from a female perspective as Shakespeare’s exploration of love, lineage and power, co-written with John Fletcher, unfolds in the Globe Theatre this Summer. You know the story: a King who turns his country upside down to try and secure a male heir. But it’s never been told this way before… A Queen fights for justice. A Lady provokes reformation. But in the absence of a son, can a Princess change the future?

Amy Hodge (Women Beware Women, Globe) directs this production which sees the Globe’s 2022 Resident Writer Hannah Khalil (A Museum in Baghdad) become Shakespeare and Fletcher’s third collaborator.

A fun version.

We both enjoyed the show. It was very entertaining. A bit risqué for the more sensitive maybe. Also Shakespeare purists may not be so keen. The music and singing were excellent. Although it was funny it had lots of moments where you really felt for the characters; particularly Catherine and Wolsey. Some really good acting. A good cast.

Disappointing disaster

I was so disappointed with this show due to vulgarity, poor acting, poor staging. We left it during the first act, finding other people leaving too. What a vulgarity on the Globe stage. It should not be there. This performance is a Humiliation to the Globe. I am more than upset. The Globe lost our trust.
