The producers behind the original production of Billy Elliot The Musical today revealed their search for children to play the roles of Billy, Michael and Debbie in a forthcoming run of the multi award-winning hit show.

Helming the search will be casting director Jessica Ronane. She said today: “We are delighted to be starting a new nationwide search to find our next generation of boys to play Billy Elliot. Following in the footsteps of some of the most beloved stars whose careers were launched by this extraordinary production.”

Billy Elliot The Musical debuted at the Victoria Palace Theatre (now home to Hamilton) in 2005, where it played until 2016. Since then, it has been performed on Broadway and in national and international tours. The original production received over 80 awards internationally, including ten Tony Awards and five Olivier Awards and has been seen by 10.5 million people worldwide.

The musical, based on the highly successful film, is set in a northern mining town against the backdrop of the 1984/85 miners' strike. At its core is Billy, whose journey from boxing to ballet class uncovers a passion for dance that inspires his family and the whole community.

Directed by Stephen Daldry, the creative team includes choreographer Peter Darling, who is joined by Elton John, who composed the show’s score. The production features scenic design by Ian MacNeil, costume design is by Nicky Gillibrand, lighting design by Rick Fisher and sound design by Paul Arditti. Musical supervision and orchestrations are by Martin Koch.

Dates, locations, and full details for Billy Elliot The Musical's return will be announced in due course.
