Carrie Cracknell's sold-out and critically acclaimed Old Vic production of Tom Stoppard's Arcadia, which ran from 24 January to 21 March 2026, will be transferring to the Duke of York's Theatre this summer in a highly anticipated West End transfer.

Arcadia, which premiered at the National Theatre in 1993, takes place in the elegant estate owned by the Coverly family, across two timelines: in 1809, teenage prodigy Thomasina Coverly and her tutor Septimus Hodge explore issues both intellectual and romantic. In the modern day, a group of academics led by historian Hannah Jarvis investigate a mysterious scandal involving Lord Byron that possibly took place at the estate in 1809. Arcadia explores the nature of truth and time, the difference between classical and romantic temperaments, and the disruptive influence of sex on our lives. It won an Olivier Award for Best Play in 1993.

Carrie Cracknell's 2026 Old Vic revival received two Olivier Award nominations, including Best Revival and Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Isis Hainsworth. The Old Vic cast was led by Isis Hainsworth as Thomasina Coverly and Seamus Dillane as Septimus Hodge. Check out our review of the Old Vic production.

The West End transfer will mark the second time that Arcadia has been performed at the Duke of York's, since David Leveaux’s 2009 production with Dan Stevens and Nancy Carroll. The venue will be adapted into the round for this production. The West End cast is due to be announced.

Producer Sonia Friedman said, speaking of her long-time friendship with Stoppard, who passed away last year, "[Arcadia] holds so much of what made him extraordinary – its playfulness, precision, wit, romance, and that deep curiosity about how we make sense of the world."

Arcadia will run at the Duke of York's from 20 June to 12 September.
