Based on the 1897 play by Edmond Rostand, this is the story of legendary poet and duelist Cyrano de Bergerac, who is madly in love with the beautiful Roxane, but is convinced his enormous nose means she'll never reciprocate. Instead he finds himself helping the handsome but inarticulate Christian de Neuvillette woo Roxane by writing love letters on his behalf. Roxane falls deeply in love with Christian, not realising the true lover behind the letters is actually Cyrano. What follows is hilarity and misunderstanding, followed by violence and tragedy.

Simon Evans and Debris Stevenson adapted this stirring, lyrical story of love, lies, and longing for the RSC in 2025, with Evans (Inside No. 9: Stage/Fright) directing. Its run at the Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon was met with delight from audiences and high praise from critics.

Olivier Award-winner Adrian Lester (Henry V, The Lehman Trilogy, The Sandman, Hustle) reprises his role as Cyrano, joined by Susannah Fielding as Roxane and Levi Brown as Christian. Also returning to their roles are Joseph Christain as Edmond, Sunny Chung as Sister Claire/Madame Jodolet, Philip Cumbus as Le Bret, Greer Dale-Foulkes as Abigail, Rachel Dawson as Ann-Sofie, Oliver Grant as Jean, Scott Handy as Comte de Guiche, David Mildon as Jodolet/Carbon, Matt Mordak as Valvert/Pierre, Daniel Norford as Louis, Chris Nayak as Monfleury/Bernard, Christian Patterson as Ragueneau and Josh Sneesby as Raphael. Robert Jackson joins the cast as Arnauld alongside Taiva Hove, Joshua Maduike and Elim Mapira who will share the role of Small Boy.

Cyrano de Bergerac is currently in previews at the Noel Coward Theatre, and will have its press night on 25 June.
