Cock description
Plays don’t come more modern than this one. Cock, written in 2009, taps directly into today’s gender-fluid world where, as the main premise of the story reveals, there should be no need to label or limit ourselves when the world is so full of endless possibilities. You’ll love the show whatever your personal pronoun happens to be, and the cast is quite simply legendary.
What's the plot of Cock?
This ‘razor sharp’ play reveals the complexities of love and identity, redefining the battle of the sexes for the twenty-twenties. It’s a modern classic from Bartlett, whose previous jewels include Vassa, Snowflake, Albion, Wild, Game and a whole lot more. He’s the winner of a host of coveted awards including the New Drama award from the National Television Awards and Best Writer from the Broadcast Press Guild Awards, and he’s also known and loved for his TV work.
What’s the story? John is happy in himself, perfectly contented to be gay. He’s also happy with his boyfriend. But when he meets the woman of his dreams, things get complicated. The play stars Taron Egerton, Jonathan Bailey, Jade Anouka and Phil Daniels, and it’s on stage at the West End’s Ambassadors Theatre.
The Golden Globe Winner Taron Egerton makes his West End debut as John’s boyfriend. ‘Bridgerton’ star Jonathan Bailey is back on the London stage for the first time since winning an Olivier for his role in ‘Company’. Jade Anouka has played fantastic parts in the BBC’s His Dark Materials and the Shakespeare Trilogy at the Donmar Warehouse. And the amazing Phil Daniels, who became a legend thanks to his work on Quadrophenia, This House at the National Theatre and more, and who is more or less a National Treasure these days, completes a dazzling cast. The fun is directed by the talented Olivier and Tony Award winner, Marianne Elliott.

Despite Taron not showing and not being advised of this upon arrival the performances were electric! The understudy was fabulous, filled his celebrity shoes perfectly. Would highly recommend it!

COCK by Mike Bartlett – A bold 2021 West End debut!
by London Box Office | Sunday, September 26 2021, 09:11
“The fact is that some of us like women and some like men and that’s fine that’s good in fact that’s good, a good thing, but it seems to me that you’ve become confused.” Intrigued? So is the entire West End! This story tells the tale of John, who is happy in himself and with his boyfriend. Then he meets the woman of his dreams and things become very complex indeed. Mike Bartlett’s knife-sharp observations redefine the battle of the sexes as we know it. Welcome to Cock, on stage from 5th March to 4th June 2022.
