Zinnie Harris is an award-winning British playwright. She's also a talented screenwriter and director and has written pieces for some of Britain's greatest theatrical organisations including the Royal Court Theatre, Royal National Theatre, National Theatre of Scotland, RSC and the BBC. This is her latest stage play.

How To Hold Your Breath - The story

This brand new play sees audiences embarking upon a complex, highly entertaining journey through Europe. The action comes courtesy of two sisters: Dana, who is played by Maxine Peake, and Jasmine, who discover the true cost of the principles we modern Europeans hold so dear.

Starting off with an innocent-seeming one night stand, the resulting darkly witty and magical thriller takes a dramatic and thought-provoking look at recent European history.

The respected Artistic Director at the Royal Court theatre, Vicky Featherstone, is directing the play, having worked with Harris on The Wheel at National Theatre of Scotland as Artistic Director. How to Hold Your Breath is designed by Chloe Lamford and lit by Paule Constable, with music by Stuart Earl and movement by Ann Yee.

As well as being a particularly fine playwright Zinnie Harris writes for TV, her latest project being the BBC's top crime series, Spooks. Her brilliant play The Wheel, written specially for the National Theatre of Scotland, was also directed by Vicky Featherstone and won a coveted Fringe First Award. It was a joint winner of an Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Theatre Award and was short-listed for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, too. These are all hallmarks of a top class writer who places intelligent entertainment at the heart of everything she does.
