Juliet Stevenson will star in the English National Opera's (ENO) highly acclaimed adaptation of THE HANDMAID'S TALE.
Returning to the London Coliseum on 1 February, Stevenson will perform the non-singing role of Professor Pieixoto who is a historian and the Director of the 20th and 21st century archives at Cambridge University. Her character presents a lecture in the future about the dystopian Republic of Gilead, where the opera is set.
What is THE HANDMAID'S TALE about?
The English National Opera's powerful production is composed by Poul Ruders and is based on Margaret Atwood's seminal novel and dystopian masterpiece. THE HANDMAID'S TALE is set in a totalitarian state where women are stripped of their identities and rights. It's a thought-provoking piece of work that magnifies the issues of state control and the fragility of freedom.
