9 to 5 the Musical in London
Starring:
Brian Conley, Bonnie Langford, Caroline Sheen, Chelsea Halfpenny, David Hasselhoff
David Hasselhoff will play Franklin Hart Jnr in 9 TO 5 THE MUSICAL at The Savoy Theatre from 2 December 2019 until 8 February 2020.
Did you love the 1980 movie 9-5, shoulder pads and all? Wasn't it wonderful! Now it's back, on the West End stage for the first time, and the anticipation is mounting fast.
Everyone loves Dolly Parton, a talented lady with a big, generous heart. Her music has made millions of us happy: Jolene, Here You Come Again, Stand By Your Man... magical. And this superb musical is going to make friends and influence millions of us all over again. It's on for a strictly limited West End season. You'll find it at the magnificent Savoy Theatre. It stars the brilliant Louise Redknapp, Amber Davies, Natalie McQueen and Brian Conley. And they haven't messed with the glittering 1980 score, a classic blend of Dolly hits that was Oscar, Grammy and Tony award-nominated, to which a few new tunes have been added.
What's the story?
Born in 2008, 9 to 5 The Musical weaves the tale of the disillusioned office workers Doralee, Violet and Judy. They hate their super-sexist bullying fool of a boss, and they're not afraid to show it. When, one day, he pushes too far and pushes them over the edge, they retaliate by tying him up and taking over. So far so good, until the CEO pays a surprise visit – will all their hard work unravel? When one of the women panics, thinking she's actually killed their boss, does everything collapse?
Presented by Dolly herself and inspired by the cult film, this is a glittering, heart warming, fun-fuelled and totally, wonderfully uproarious West End show that takes on The Man... and wins hands down.
If you're searching for a satire starring three rebellious women against the world, this is it. If you love a musical where you recognise every song and love them all, this is it. If you have ever enjoyed drug-induced fantasies of killing the slave-driving chauvinist that runs your workplace, it'll feel eerily familiar. Only joking!

Good show lots of adult content and a slight mesoganistic twist Made me as a male slightly uncomfortable, suspect some ladies would be offended at how women of the time were portrayed.

The show was great and well performed but sitting in the front row of the Dress circle I could not clearly hear the words to the songs from most of the cast - disappointing. I asked others sitting near to me and made the same comment.

It didn’t seem to add anything to the original movie, except songs, which were not very memorable.

Just had a great evening watching a fantastic show. All the cast were good but special mentions have to go to Louise Redknapp who played Violet and also Bonnie Langford who played Roz. Bonnie was absolutely brilliant and makes the show in my opinion. If you’re thinking of booking tickets, do it, you won’t be disappointed.

We found the show funny and also got a perspective on how the word was in the not to distant future. Also, dramatic irony of how it is now. There were a few laughs and a tear or two. Great show and lovely theatre.

I had read no reviews and chose this show because the tickets were a good price. So I had no expectations. But do you know what, the show was so good I would have paid full price, what a bargain. My daughter and I really enjoyed it. Just one thought, you’d probably not want to take a child under 15 years old to see it, as it’s a bit adult in places. Great fun, I highly recommend it.

This was a show I had waited to see for a while. Great comedic acting from David Hasselhoff and Bonnie Langford, amongst others. Suitable for adults, less suitable for children. Audience was 70-80% older than 40, and around 60-70% female. One song seemed unnecessarily long (with one of the actors 'involved in' the song leaving the stage half way through, but otherwise very good.

Very Good performance, modern stenography, good voices and singing and even excellent one, good atmosphere and receptive audience. The story quite entertaining, not much sermonising or moralistic and not realistic but still reflecting the real problems in traditional genders agenda between men and women especially at workplace as well as in broader life contexts. A bit of comedy crime drama and a bit of teasing erotic farce as well as some small romance on the side of it. Quite funny and brilliant performance and generally well balanced staging and cast playing it. Pleasant and satisfying theatre experience.

Absolutely loved the show. Organised this as an outing for my mum's 60th birthday, my aunt and sisters came along too. We all loved it. I wouldn't recommend bringing children to this as they would not understand most of the gags but for adults this is brilliant. The Hof was the highlight of the show so try and see it while he's in the cast.
