Hand to God

The genius of Robert Askin's hilarious play about a troubled young Christian who's hand puppet becomes possessed by Satan is that he takes it all to unthinkable extremes whilst remaining true to a logical progression of events. It’s somehow so persuasive a journey that you can believe in the spiralling of mayhem right through to the blood dripping, shocking conclusion.

The celebrated director Michael Grandage has declared this as a vibrant time for London Theatre. It’s hard to disagree.
Following the announcement that Kenneth Branagh is importing the stars of his latest film, CINDERELLA, to play ROMEO AND JULIET at the Garrick Theatre this year, Grandage has announced that he’ll bring Nicole Kidman, the star of his new film GENIUS, to London Theatre too.

Review of The Indian Queen at The Coliseum

It’s a time for theatrical marathons. The night after sitting through three and a half hours of the National Theatre’s revival of Man and Superman I found myself at The Coliseum Theatre watching the ENO’s (English National Opera) three hour, forty minutes production of The Indian Queen.
The company has been in the headlines recently as the Arts Council have serious concerns about their finances and many commentators have been questioning whether the huge amount of public funding they receive is value for money.

Review of Beautiful - The Carole King Musical
By Phil Willmott Friday, February 27 2015, 16:13
The producers of Beautiful have today released over 350,000 new tickets presumably in response to demand since the reviews have come out. It's great news and proof that a hit can come out of a seemingly unpromising idea.
Unpromising because unless you're an expert on twentieth century pop you probably haven’t heard of King. But I’m happy to report that like Jersey Boys (featuring the music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons) and Thriller Live (drawing on the back catalogue of Michael Jackson) Beautiful is one of those terrific evenings when you suddenly discover how many of your favourite hits are the work of one artist.

Review of Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown

There's a festive Spanish atmosphere from the moment you enter the Playhouse Theatre with flamenco music and appropriately themed drink deals.
Taking your seat, the stage before you contains a simple stylish design by Anthony Ward, a white walkway surrounding a big white box with a few bold blocks of colour to either side. Immediately this suggests the delicious chic of the 80s movie on which this new-ish musical is based.
