Big Fish in London

Take a best-selling book by the supremely talented author Daniel Wallace, a legend in its own lifetime. Blend in the smash hit movie directed by Tim Burton. Add a dash of super-stardom thanks to actor Kelsey Grammer and a great book by John August, who also wrote the Columbia Pictures screenplay and the book for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. What do you get? One massive fish, that's what. Welcome to Big Fish the musical... it's absolutely lovely.

The plot? Introducing Edward Bloom, a character played by the Emmy, Tony and Golden Globe award-winner Kelsey Grammer. He might be a fairly ordinary chap but he's a totally extraordinary dad, a guy who has always woven amazing stories for his little son, extraordinary tales filled with beauty, affection and wild imaginings. When his son decides he really needs to know the difference between truth and fiction, Edward takes the task very seriously indeed. Thus begins a magical life-affirming journey that will change both of their lives dramatically, forever.

This splendid brand new musical has been beautifully adapted from the much-loved book and Tim Burton film. The musical score comes from Tony nominee Andrew Lippa, who penned tunes for The Addams Family and The Wild Party. It's set to be a big festive hit this winter, a show with a big, bold heart that's full of warmth and humanity, a perfect theatrical treat for families and ideal for everyone aged five and above.

Director Nigel Harman was totally charmed by the story. As he says: “When I first encountered the piece I was struck by its depth of humanity and it's zest for life. A story that celebrates life in all of its wonders and despairs. A simple tale told in the most extraordinary way. It has been wonderful to revisit the music, book and lyrics with John and Andrew”.

If you like nothing better than a heart-warming, life-affirming, cheerful, positive and utterly lovely musical that leaves you loving your family more than ever, appreciating them a whole lot more and feeling like your spirit has enjoyed a great big, gorgeous, happy boost, this one's for you.
