The Bodyguard in London
Starring:
Beverley Knight
Have you seen The Bodyguard on stage yet? This ever-popular award-winning musical, based on the smash-hit movie, returns to the West End this summer for a strictly limited season. Our very own brilliant Queen of British Soul, Beverley Knight, stars as Rachel Marron, and the excitement is already mounting. It's great to see it back.
The Bodyguard – The story
When the tough, uncompromising former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer gets a new gig, all hell lets loose. This time he's tasked with protecting the superstar diva Rachel Marron from an unknown stalker, who has threatened to kill her.
Rachel doesn't take the threat seriously, which drives Frank nuts because he knows it's for real. Their strong personalities clash from the outset - they're both used to being in charge. They start the show disliking one another. But they end up falling in love, in a breathtaking romantic thriller. The show features a collection of superb tracks, the irresistible classics made so famous by the movie, including One Moment in Time, I Wanna Dance with Somebody and the tune everybody knows... I Will Always Love You.
The Warner Bros. film came from the pen of the Oscar-nominated screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, who raised the rafters in cinemas worldwide with his work on Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Big Chill and The Empire Strikes Back. You can read an accompanying book, written by the Drama Desk Award-nominated author Alexander Dinelaris. This brand new production is beautifully directed by the award-winning Thea Sharrock, who rocked our world with Sunshine Boys, Equus and The Misanthrope.
A host more talent is involved in making this one of the longest-awaited shows in town, people like Tim Hatley, the award winning designer. There's choreography by Arthur Pita, orchestrations by Chris Egan, musical supervision by Mike Dixon, lighting by Mark Henderson and sound by Richard Brooker. Last but nor least video designs come from Duncan McLean, completing a creative team it's very hard to beat.

Pre booked Stall seats, J1 & J2 on line there wasn't a lot of choice of seating left so went for what we thought were good seats. The majority of the performance we could see but there were a couple of scenes where we were unable to see what was going on. Handy for the toilet or a quick exit. The performance was excellent through out, comfy seats, there were a lot of empty seats around, but later found out 2 booked coach loads hadn't turned up, so by the section half people were moving to get a better view. Loved the story line, almost word for word of film, really fab stuff.

A must see show! Clever use of lighting and set. Excellent cast and production. Only problem was siiting behind a tall couple. I was lucky enough to sit on centre aisle seat in the stalls, so leant my head to one side to see a little better however this was not comfortable. My companion on my left did have a resticted view. I wonder why seats are not more graduated to account for this? Show was so good however able to be immersed in it. Would recommend 5*

Such a good show. One of the best I have seen in London for a long while. We all know the Whitney songs but they were written in to the score excellently. I wasn't sure how the story would translate on to the stage but my goodness they did it well. People were out of seats dancing! It has it all, sadness, shocking moments, joy, laughter and the show has you gripped from beginning to end. It's a must see!!

I would not have booked a ticket whatsoever had I known this as I specifically wanted to see Beverley Knight.

A brilliant show, Fantastic vocals from Beverly Knight and a great cast. This is a must see show for anyone. The audience were on their feet dancing by the end of the show. My only criticism is that their is 1 part where the lighting is projected across the audience and it actually restricted our view through one of the songs as the lights were too bright.

Location is perfect, straight out of Tottenham Court Road Tube Station and your there. Beverley Knight was sensational she is as close to Whitney as you'll ever get. The story line was great it related to the film and the show had its own twist and introduced some of Whitneys songs that wasn't in the film which we felt was a real tribute to Whitney Houston herself! All in all if you want a truly thrilling night whether as a couple, with friends or with the family, trust me this won't disappoint! I'd also like to mention the staff, they were amazing, we arrived slightly late and thought we wouldn't get to see the show, we were surprised at just how friendly and helpful the staff were and we got to see the show, so a special thanks to them!

Review: THE BODYGUARD at The Dominion Theatre
by Stacey Tyler | Monday, August 8 2016, 09:36
Having loved the original production back in 2013, I jumped at the chance to see The Bodyguard as it returned to London’s glittering West End. Even if you have seen the film, this is one story that never fails to tug at your heart-strings. Not like your usual musical, this story holds as much weight as the musical element, and that is why it is such a hit with avid theatre-goers and juke box musical fans alike.
