Michael Jackson was one of the most popular entertainers of all time. His dance skills made him a legend, inspiring the world to moonwalk. His albums sold in their millions. Now his unique artistry is being showcased in a brand-new musical.
The show focuses on the making of Jackson’s legendary 1992 Dangerous World Tour. Created by the Tony winning Director and Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, in cahoots with the twice-Pulitzer Prize winning writer Lynn Nottage, it’s about so much more than the music. This is a jukebox musical with a difference, containing more than 25 of MJ’s brilliant songs, and while MJ has all the moves it also reveals the extraordinary mind and creative spirit behind the tunes.
MJ The Musical was due to premiere on Broadway in mid-2020 but fell victim to Covid. Ephraim Sykes was originally cast as Jackson but was replaced by Myles Frost in June 2021. When it finally opened the show had mixed reviews from critics, but audiences knew better. Along with the Tony won by Myles Frost it won Tonys for Best Choreography, Best Lighting Design, and Best Sound Design. The original cast recording scored equally high, netting a Grammy nomination for Best Musical Theater Album. January 2024 saw the Broadway production grossing a mighty $170.9 million, seen by more than 1.1 million people.
An impressive cast and creative team
A fantastic cast joins Myles Frost. Ashley Zhangazha (Tina) plays Joseph Jackson / Rob. Mitchell Zhangazha (Ain't Too Proud) plays Michael, Philippa Stefani (Wicked) is Rachel, and Phebe Edwards (The Lion King) plays Katherine Jackson / Kate.
Matt Mills (Dream Girls) portrays Berry Gordy / Nick, while Rohan Pinnock-Hamilton (Get Up Stand Up) is Tito Jackson / Quincy Jones. Matt Gonsalves (Dear Evan Hansen) is Alejandro, and Jon Tsouras (Sunset Boulevard) plays Dave.
The creative team is equally experienced, including Scenic Design by Derek McLane (Moulin Rouge! The Musical), Lighting Design by Natasha Katz (Once), Costume Design by Paul Tazewell (Hamilton), Sound Design by Gareth Owen (Come From Away), Projection Design by Peter Nigrini (Dear Evan Hansen), plus Hair and Wig Design by Charles LaPointe (The Color Purple). Musical Supervision is by David Holcenberg (Matilda The Musical), and the Orchestrations and Arrangements are by David Holcenberg and Jason Michael Webb (The Color Purple).

Nobody ever got to see MJ like this!Three Michaels - the boy, the young man, and the troubled adult - tell the story of his life in the context of planning for the Dangerous tour. The musical performances are superb - this theatre also has the acoustic chops so that you can understand every word and hear every instrument.

I think the Thriller interpretation was amazing and the heal the world and TDCAU was spot on. My favorite part of the show. Also the MJ that receives the Grammys is my favorite MJ. Superb showAny fan of MJ ought not to miss this! An incredible script of one of the greatest artists of all time! Great ambience at the Prince Edward Theatre and it was a full house, as was the case in NYC where we saw the same show last week at the Neil Simon Theatre on Broadway :) So we were able to compare and contrast the two shows. Would definitely recommend to see either of the shows at London or nyc though between the two, the NYC performance was a tighter show and the artists at nyc were better.

A convincing performance of an intriguing story (and you can’t beat the Jackson repertoire)!The lead character played a very convincing Michael Jackson! Lead vocalist were excellent (the reporter in the story had an exceptional voice that I would’ve loved to have heard more). Some pitch issues out of the younger actors and at times vocals were drowned out by the backup Orchestra. That said, the band and Orchestra were excellent. Very entertaining!
